    Descrição

The Safety Net Project is seeking law students to work in the Housing Unit alongside attorneys, paralegals, and advocates. Interns will support the Safety Net Project staff in housing and tenants’ rights. The Safety Net Project represents no income to low-income tenants in the Bronx who are fighting housing injustice. If the student is passionate about being the voice for the voiceless, this is the perfect internship.

The Safety Net Project combines individual representation, affirmative litigation, research, and policy to achieve economic justice for low and no-income residents of New York City. We provide vital community legal services to clients at our network of free city-wide legal clinics while engaging in impact litigation, research, and policy advocacy. In doing so, we challenge systemic failures that violate the rights of those we serve.

Successful candidates must be able to quickly learn about NYC housing law and landlord/tenant practice, possess an aptitude for engaging a variety of people, and have a desire to work with New Yorkers living in poverty. Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills are essential. Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.

Legal Interns will work in any/all of the legal practice areas within SNP, including but not limited to:

    • Direct Litigation Housing & Tenants’ Rights: Staff intakes through Right to Counsel (RTC) and Tenant Helplines
    • Conducting Legal Writing and Research
    • Provide Support for Attorneys: Conducting client outreach; Corresponding with social service agencies; attending remote building-wide and/or client meetings

The Safety Net Project is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from people with diverse backgrounds, including women, people of color, immigrants, persons with disabilities, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.
