WHO ARE WE
Sadie Nash Leadership Project provides award-winning experiential social justice education to more than 500 young women and gender-expansive youth of color in New York City and Newark each year. Operating with love and rigor, we use the tools of popular education to build critical consciousness, community, and college readiness. We strengthen, empower, and equip our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for self and community.
Our award-winning flagship program, Summer Institute (SI), is an immersive 6-week program for high school students, where participants (lovingly called Nashers) explore themes related to leadership, feminism, and social justice. Through classes, workshops, field trips, and intimate conversations with community leaders, we introduce concepts of power, identity, and privilege so that our Nashers can articulate and critically analyze their personal experiences within a broader political context and through project based learning.
SI operates at four in-person sites: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Newark, NJ.
DEAN INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:
We are seeking energetic and passionate Deans at four in-person sites of our summer program. Deans are charged with co-facilitation, mentorship, and administrative support after completing an in-depth radical youth work training. Deans act as teaching assistants, facilitate daily groups and weekly workshops, and support a range of program administration needs. This opportunity offers Deans the chance to sharpen curriculum development, classroom management skills, build foundational knowledge of healing centered youth work, and gain a deep understanding of social justice nonprofits.
The Dean position is from June 23, 2025 - August 18, 2025. This position requires a full-time, in-person commitment.
ELIGIBILITY:
Dean applicants are self-identified women and gender-expansive folk who MUST meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Must have completed at least 4 semesters of post-secondary education and is enrolled in the Fall of 2025 (i.e. will be juniors or seniors)
- Must have graduated high school before May 2023, AND will be attending a post-secondary program in the Fall of 2025 (i.e. obtained high school diploma or GED by 2023 and attending graduate or trade school/community college Fall 2025)
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Mentorship, Leadership, and Facilitation- Dean will mentor a group of 10-15 Nashers, lead morning discussions with mentee group, serve as a teaching assistant in assigned courses, and chaperone field trips. Dean will develop and facilitate original workshops on social justice topics of their choosing.
- Administrative Support - Deans will be responsible for tracking, monitoring and follow-up on attendance and engagement of Nashers in mentee group, manage event logistics like guest speakers and field trips, attend check-in meetings, and additional duties as assigned.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following:
- Leadership Experience: Candidates should demonstrate leadership in academic, professional, extracurricular or volunteer settings. This also includes ability to remain accountable to the role requirements such as being punctual, reliable, and organized. Prior experience with facilitation and building braver spaces is preferred.
- Social Justice Alignment: Excitement about putting SNLP mission and goals into practice. This includes a commitment to and grounding in intersectional feminism, racial and gender equity, LGBTQIA+ rights, as well as, learning and utilizing restorative practices.
- Community and Relationship Building: The ideal candidate should be excited to create community through communicating effectively and build relationships with youth and families, community partners, and staff. Candidates should be especially interested in wanting to work with youth of color, particularly ages 14-19 and prior experience with youth is preferred.

KEY DATES OF THE POSITION:
- June 23 - July 2: Site Leader, Dean, and Faculty Training (generally 10 am - 6 pm; Monday - Friday)
- Saturday, June 28 - Summer Institute Nasher & Parent Orientation (10 am - 12 pm)
- July 7 - August 14: Summer Program (9 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday; Fridays are half days)
- August 15 - August 18: Close-Out Administration Work (10 am - 5 pm, can be completed virtually if all in person duties are completed)
