    The Democratic Socialists of America (501c4) is a member-run socialist organization with more than 280 groups nationwide engaged in movement-building, public education, direct action, advocacy, and electoral politics. Our immediate goal is to build working-class power against the capitalist class while advancing transformative reforms like a Green New Deal, supporting a robust labor movement, electing socialists to office, and shifting the public framing around capitalism and democratic socialism. DSA is a “big tent,” multi-tendency organization that welcomes everyone committed to democracy and socialism.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Oversee the national DSA organizing program with a focus on organizational priorities, best practices, and member committee and chapter development
    • Supervise all DSA field organizers in their work with chapters and committees
    • Supervise YDSA, Labor, and Electoral Campaigns organizers to ensure collaboration with relevant committees and wider organizing team
    • Set and achieve organizing goals in line with DSA’s priorities
    • Work across staff and committees to support high-level member engagement programs at the chapter level and strategic campaigns overall
    • Ensure that national priority committees are functioning well, effectively engaging the membership, and grounding their work in local chapter engagement
    • Grow and develop organizing department staff through hiring, restructuring, long-term planning, training, and professional development
    • Oversee member skills training and development working alongside organizing staff and member committees
    • Interface with other departments on staff and national leadership in order to identify gaps in organizing work, articulate needs of the program, bottomline department reports, and resolve problems
    • Plan and approve key organizing budget decisions, including in-person chapter visits, multi-chapter events, and department meetings
    • Manage the implementation of decisions and strategic plans as voted on by the membership of DSA at biennual National Conventions and the National Political Committee (NPC)
    • Ensure the NPC has timely and accurate information to make decisions and govern the organization
    • Other duties on an as needed basis

    Qualifications

    • At least 5 to 7 years in a managerial position in labor, community or issue-based organizing, preferably on a national level
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience leading a national organizing program working with staff and volunteers
    • Experience managing a team of more than five people
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a non-traditional leadership structure, adapting to changing political conditions and organizational needs
    • High level of accountability, responsibility, and dependability
    • Ability to travel on occasion
    • Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action, and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of DSA

    We offer employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter. Employer contribution equivalent to 1% of wage to a 401k.
