    Al Otro Lado is seeking a bilingual Spanish or Russian speaking Community Coordinator to join the U.S. Based Advocacy team’s new Case Management Pilot Program (“CMPP”). Al Otro Lado’s CMPP is part of a new partnership with Los Angeles County and other Los Angeles area organizations, working together to provide voluntary, supportive, and comprehensive case management services to clients enrolled in ICE alternative to detention programs. Al Otro Lado acts as the entry point for CMPP and provides legal orientations, case and social needs consultations, human trafficking screenings, and pro se support services.

    The Community Coordinator will be assigned to the CMPP program, within the U.S. Based Advocacy team. The US. Based Advocacy team provides holistic, full-scale representation to particularly vulnerable immigrants, including unaccompanied children, members of the LGBTQA+ community, Indigenous migrants, Black migrants, torture survivors, survivors of human trafficking, clients with disabiltiies/medical vulnerabilities, and clients whose cases present family unity concerns. Our holistic representation strategy includes identifying a client’s needs, goals, and challenges, and seeking to achieve their best immigration outcomes, not only through legal services but also by connecting individuals with support to overcome the non-legal obstacles they face in their cases.

    The Community Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Managing DOJ Accredited Representative, and will primarily assist in the enrollment of eligible residents of Los Angeles County into CMPP. The Community Coordinator will be based out of Al Otro Lado’s Los Angeles office and will have the opportunity to work a hybrid model with in-person duties as needed to serve our client population.

    Given the enrollment and outreach focus of this role, it is expected that a large majority of this position will require travel and work within various sites throughout Los Angeles county.

    Role and Responsibilities

    Serve as the primary CMPP Team member in charge of outreach and CMPP enrollment via the “walk-in” enrollment process

    Conduct outreach with and visit local area shelters, churches, and other community organizations to educate site staff and volunteers on the CMPP program

    Directly engage with individuals who are potentially eligible for program enrollment and assist them with submitting data for randomization into the program

    Conduct visits and outreach at various LA area immigration sites frequented by potential CMPP participants such as the Van Nuys, Santa Ana, North Los Angeles, and West Los Angeles Immigration Courts; the ICE ERO office; the ISAP office; and community gathering spaces including shelters. in order to to enroll eligible participants

    Develop and distribute materials and content promoting and supporting CMPP legal and social services, and the enrollment process for CMPP.

    Help facilitate referrals between various LA CMPP consortium partners, and enrollment from individuals identified by other CMPP consortium members

    Help facilitate referrals between CMPP project sites nationwide for individuals who relocate to a different CMPP jurisdiction

    Participate in and help coordinate bi-monthly CRCL “In Person Days” at the Los Angeles ICE office to enroll eligible CMPP participants on-the-spot

    Serve as a liaison between outside referral sources and particularly vulnerable CMPP eligible participants for the randomization process and subsequent referral for urgent social and legal services

    Qualifications and Requirements

    Fluency in English and either Spanish or Russian

    Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: community organizing, social work, case management, translation and interpretation, and/or legal advocacy

    Knowledge of and relationship with various stakeholders in the LA immigrant community, such as, but not limited to: churches, community organizations, homeless shelters, medical clinics, etc.

    Demonstrated ability to be proactive, collaborative, and creative in different projects and tasks.

    Open to a varied work schedule with potential, evening, early morning, and weekend work as needed, not to exceed the 40 hour work week.

    Valid CA driver’s license and auto insurance, with reliable access to transportation

    Attention to detail, and experience working with Excel and other data tracking software

    Passion for immigrants’ rights and advocating for social justice

    Work authorization in the United States

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting hourly wage of $30/hour. Al Otro Lado is piloting a 36-hour work week, with a half-day (4 hours) on Fridays. Payroll adjustments are made to ensure that all staff receive the same wages as in a 40-hour work week.

    This position requires extensive commuting and local travel throughout Los Angeles County. Mileage and other travel expense reimbursement will be provided.

    Al Otro Lado’s comprehensive benefits package includes:

    Health benefits: Al Otro Lado contributes up to 99% of employee medical & 70% of employee dental and vision premiums. Insurance coverage is effective on the 1st of the month following the employee’s date of hire.
