Under the direction of the Program Outreach Manager – Travel Training, the Transportation Specialist implements program initiatives that pertain to DATA’s Mobility-For-All services. The emphasis of which will be travel training for Spanish-speaking residents and the recruitment of bi-lingual volunteer drivers.In some instances, the Transportation Specialist will also assist with outreach activities for client initiatives in assigned markets for the suite of DATA’s other transportation programs.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK/RESPONSIBILITIES: (This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the job).
- Primary responsibility will be to plan, organize, and implement travel training programs for Spanish-speaking residents under DATA’s Mobility For All initiative. Activities may include:
- Coordinating with DATA’s existing stakeholders to plan, organize and implement travel training sessions that are in-person and on-site, specific to the circumstances identified with the stakeholder.
- Participating in (and eventually leading) travel training sessions in English and/or Spanish and providing follow up with stakeholder organizations after sessions are complete.
- Developing new relationships with organizations and businesses that have prospective clients that could benefit from DATA’s travel training program.
- Secondary responsibilities include assisting with the Mobility Network and Veteran’s Connect programs aimed at recruiting volunteer drivers through a variety of mechanisms and activities including:
- Prospecting for volunteer drivers by tabling at events, trade shows, community and faith-based fairs, and other gatherings where potential volunteers may sign up for the Mobility Networks! or Veteran’s Connect programs.
- Researching new organizations with which DATA may partner to reach new prospective volunteer drivers.
- Promoting DATA’s travel training program to partner organizations and other community-based programs to recruit prospective participants.
- Working with Fairfax County’s Department of Neighborhood and Community Services to promote the County’s TOPS program and other transportation services while working in the Fairfax County portion of DATA’s service area.
- Initiate and conduct personal visits to target prospects.
- Prepare and conduct presentations for community groups and other organizations.
- Be proficient in using social media to highlight DATA’s enhanced mobility activities.
- Document and report activities to meet performance goals.
- Attend trade shows and/or host events to promote DATA’s suite of Enhanced Mobility services.
- Investigate and resolve client problems.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities.
- Prepare activities for monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Familiarity with TDM and /or Travel Training services desirable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field desirable.
- Ability to speak Spanish is a must.
- Zero to three (3) years of applicable experience.
- Equivalent combination of applicable education and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Virginia driver license and access to automobile or to substantially equivalent alternative transportation.
- Willingness to learn to be a travel trainer (on the job training provided)
- This position is 90% remote work environment, applicant must be able to provide a good work situation to accomplish the requirements of the position.
