    The Department of Economics and Business at the City College of New York is hiring a Finance Career Specialist to identify career opportunities in finance and related sectors and to grow hiring pipelines for students and graduates of the Department of Economics and Business at The City College of New York.

    This position is made possible by the CUNY Inclusive Economy Initiative, sponsored by the Office of Careers & Industry Partnerships (OCIP) at the City University of New York. The person hired will be embedded in CCNY’s Department of Economics and Business and will report to Prabal De, the Department’s Chair. They will also be part of the dynamic team in the Colin Powell School’s Office of Student Success. The salary range for this position is $93,134-$99,532. The Finance Career Specialist will be expected to work in-person on CCNY’s campus in New York City. They will be an employee of the CUNY Research Foundation, which provides a comprehensive benefits package.

    The person hired will work with finance and business industry partners to define workforce needs, identify hiring challenges and opportunities, specify skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles, and explore partnerships; the finance industry includes banking, investment companies, accounting, tax, real estate and insurance. The person hired will work directly with a cohort of at least 200 undergraduate students to prepare them for opportunities in finance and related fields.

    Position responsibilities include:

    • Securing and sustaining partnerships with financial services employers offering paid internship, placements, and full-time job opportunities to students with target majors in finance, accounting and economics;
    • Sustaining partnerships with financial services employers created by the Dean and faculty of the Colin Powell School;
    • Sharing employment opportunities and, where appropriate, referring qualified students to employers for specific roles;
    • Engaging employers in defining workforce needs, identifying hiring challenges and opportunities, and specifying skills and proficiencies needed to fill available roles;
    • Developing and refining talent recruitment models and processes based on employer information to help connect qualified CCNY students to high quality career opportunities (full time roles, paid internships, apprenticeships, etc.);
    • Ensuring a minimum of 100 students (50% of 200 student cohort) successfully connect to internships, part-time work in their sector, or secure full-time employment.
    • Achieving engagement of 100 new employer partners who can provide paid, sector-specific internships, or full-time job opportunities to students within the target majors.
    • Engaging campus staff and faculty to build sustaining partnerships that benefit campuses directly.
    • Working with career service teams across the Colin Powell School and CCNY to establish the data and reporting systems needed to track and evaluate progress towards the goal of increasing the rate of CCNY graduates employed at graduation and closing any disparities in job attainment.
    • Developing and sharing insights from interactions with industry, including labor-market intelligence, in-demand trends, and potential policy and operational barriers that may prevent CCNY from taking full advantage of career opportunities for students.
    • Identifying and deploying strategies for closing disparities in job outcomes for CCNY graduates, including but not limited to working with finance sector employers to identify practices that may be creating artificial barriers to qualified talent.
    • Informing OCIP unit-wide strategies and help other divisions better realize their industry engagement goals.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor’s degree and four years of professional work experience in finance or a related industry.

    Ideally, candidates will have one or more of the following:

    • Experience working in financial markets and/or financial sector career services, talent acquisition and recruitment;
    • Experience with community and business outreach, ideally in implementing talent acquisition, outreach strategies, and business development;
    • Understanding of business and recruitment and hiring practices in the financial services sector of the NYC economy.
