    Family Legal Care is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Program Associate to join our team.

    This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in innovative access-to-justice work. Program Associates provide direct support through FLC’s Helplines, and across other Family Legal Care programs, including FLC’s Court-Based Legal Information and Tech Hubs. Program Associates help people navigate and understand the legal system. FLC provides our associates with comprehensive training on the laws and procedures of New York Family Court. This position reports to the Helpline Manager.

    Family Legal Care’s mission is to increase access to justice in the New York State Family Court. We combine legal guidance, easy-to-access technology, and compassionate support to help unrepresented parents and caregivers self-advocate on critical family law issues, while working on reform that improves the system for everyone.     Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Provide legal information and targeted community-based referrals directly to participants on Family Legal Care’s Telephone, Email, and Live Chat Helplines about New York State family law;
    • Staff court-based Legal Information and Tech Hubs by providing legal information and technical support to litigants;
    • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with court staff and agency partners;
    • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of NYS family law (training and ongoing support will be provided);
    • Schedule appointments for participants, staff attorneys, and pro bono attorneys;
    • Assist in the development and translation of legal resources for clients;
    • Collect data for internal reporting purposes and program evaluation;
    • Provide support across all organizational programs and initiatives as needed;
    • Attend a monthly in person Helpline office day; and
    • Participate in FLC’s monthly staff meetings and trainings.

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree not required, but strongly preferred;
    2. Applicants with legal or social work experience encouraged to apply;
    3. Strong communication, organizational skills and commitment to providing high-quality compassionate service;
    4. Experience or a demonstrated interest in increasing access to justice;
    5. Basic knowledge of MS outlook, Word and Excel;
    6. Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred;
    7. Familiarity with database management and reporting;
    8. Professional, energetic, enthusiastic, adaptable, flexible, able to multi-task;
    9. Demonstrated experience working on a team and/or in a collaborative environment, particularly in a virtual environment
    10. Attentive to details and ability to think critically and
    11. Commitment to Family Legal Care’s mission and values.

    Location: We have transitioned to a hybrid model with some in-person attendance required.
