    Overview

    The Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1982, with a mission to empower consumers and communities to speed a just transition to clean a zero-carbon world. We have 18 employees and offices in Boston and Providence. We combine consumer-facing programs with public policy advocacy at the state and local levels in Massachusetts and Rhode Island – work that is more important now than ever. The programs we have for consumers include green electricity, heating, rooftop solar, Shave the Peak, energy efficiency, heat pumps, and an electric vehicle program called Drive Green.     We are searching for someone who is passionate about climate action and excited to work helping consumers access clean energy solutions such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and heat pumps. A strong interest in those technologies is essential. So is flexibility, as this program associate will be working on more than one project in a week and with various small teams within the organization. The successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to learn about the field.

    Responsibilities

    Tasks for the Associate will include:

    • Staying up-to-date on key clean energy technologies, markets, and policies, and researching more deeply as needed;
    • Taking incoming and outgoing calls and emails for current and prospective members and partner organizations, answering questions about technologies, incentives, and Green Energy Consumers programs
    • ;
    • Performing community outreach and education, including;
    • Creating content for our website, presentations, blog, and email and social media campaigns;
    • Engaging with our partner organizations;
    • Presenting to racially and culturally diverse audiences in-person and on webinars;
    • Representing our organization at events (i.e. tabling). Events are often held at night and on weekends, and the Associate would be able to adjust their schedule to attend events once or twice per month (less in winter, more in spring);
    • Some data entry;
    • Helping to manage and implement day-to-day operations; and
    • Other program tasks and projects as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications

    • A passion for energy and climate issues;
    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an associate’s degree plus relevant experience;
    • Good written and/or oral communication skills for interacting with members & the public seeking solutions via our programs;
    • Strong organizational and time management skills;
    • Detail oriented;
    • Ability to attend events in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including occasional evenings and weekends, as needed (mileage or travel costs reimbursed);
    • Driver’s license required;
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Google Suite;
    • Flexible and adaptable demeanor;
    • Willingness to work on administrative tasks as needed to support a small team;
    • The ability to work well in a team: openness, honesty, kindness, and a sense of humor are appreciated!;
    • Ability to work from our Providence or Boston office as necessary, at least one day a week;
    • Roots in Massachusetts and/or Rhode Island, meaning past or present residence in either state and familiarity with the geography, politics, and communities; and
    • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including a booster shot.

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Experience in the clean energy field.
    • Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
    • Customer service experience.

    Compensation

    1. $52,000 - $55,000/ year based upon an hourly wage of $27-$28 for a 5-hour
