Our mission is to provide essential resources that help families build a sustainable foundation, uplifting the entire community and enhancing their quality of life. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Development and Communications Manager to join our team.

    Annual Salary: $60,000 - $77,000

    Employment Type: Full-time 40 hours per week, including weekends as needed.

    Location: Combination of on-site work, off-site events, meetings and telecommuting as appropriate.

    Fundraising

    • Work with the E.D. to develop and implement an effective fundraising strategy which will provide a diverse and sustainable funding baseline that is in line with the organization's goals and objectives.
    • Identify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic support for the annual fund.
    • Organize and lead all fundraising, cultivation events and meetings, working with community partners, vendors, other staff and Board of Directors to ensure success of events.
    • Lead the implementation of the grant management, donor recognition and stewardship activities.
    • Liaise with the volunteer Development Committee to ensure fundraising and event goals are met.
    • Keep up to date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector.
    • Responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support Detroit Friendship House’s mission and goals.
    • The first year (2025)the development manager will raise $345,000 through diversified funding with 10% revenue growth in year two(2026) and 20% revenue growth year three to total $455,400.
    • This individual will possess strong leadership, strategic thinking, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships with donors and corporate partners.

    Communications:

    • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the organization's mission, programs, and achievements to the public, potential donors, and other stakeholders.
    • Oversee the website, social media communications, general branding, creation of promotional materials, newsletters, and annual report that effectively tell the organization’s story to attract support.
    • Develop and maintain contacts with area media outlets.
    • Write and distribute press releases, and act as the organization's spokesperson as needed.
    • Coordinate speaking engagements for representatives of the organization as needed.

    Events:

    • Help conceptualize, organize, and support fundraising events.
    • Provide administrative support including data, mailings, marketing, and other communication initiatives.
    • Be an ongoing and proactive advocate for DFH within the community at large by attending appropriate functions and events.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors’ degree required
    • Three to five years of experience in nonprofit development
    • Two to three years of communication experience desired
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word), fundraising CRMs, and Adobe Acrobat
    • Possess interpersonal skills to foster working with others to elicit information, ability to think critically and creatively, and to work independently
    • Possess strong work ethic and demonstrates initiative; shows commitment and desire to work in an entrepreneurial, team-based environment
    • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated leadership and experience working in team environments
    • Strong problem-solving skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THIS POSITION: Must be able to constantly sit, walk, bend, twist, climb, reach above shoulders, kneel, and squat. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Must be able to exchange accurate information with non-disabled internal and external individuals. Must be able to work in an office/warehouse/retail environment.
