Financial Empowerment Program Survivor Support Specialist

Albemarle Hopeline, Inc., a private non-profit organization providing comprehensive services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, has an opening to join our dedicated team of professionals.

The Survivor Support Specialist will execute our agency’s survivor empowerment program, the primary goal of which is to aid survivors in obtaining long-term financial independence and improved quality of life by focusing on housing, employment, education, and financial goals. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, empathetic, have a strong knowledge of community resources, and work well as part of a team.

The Survivor Support Specialist will assist clients with financial management including budgeting, creating savings, building/repairing credit, and managing debt. They will assist clients in accessing other community resources such as housing programs, financial assistance, childcare subsidies, food programs, or other needed services. They will connect clients with educational opportunities by assisting with financial aid and scholarship applications, continuing education enrollment, and other areas of assistance such as helping clients balance and schedule their educational commitments. They will further assist with employment through career counseling, resume development, the employment search process, and preparing for job interviews. They will also coordinate wellness workshops for program participants which help promote personal growth. They will assist clients in identifying, securing, and maintaining safe housing and administer housing-related and other financial assistance.

This individual must also have strong case management skills including assessment, crisis intervention, organization, time management, communication, conflict resolution, and coaching. Because our clients are frequently engaged in multiple services through our agency, the ability to communicate well with other team members to ensure the best possible outcome for clients is essential. All Hopeline staff members must adhere to strict confidentiality policies.

Albemarle Hopeline operates a 24-hour crisis response line, and all team members participate in a shared shift rotation for crisis line coverage and sexual assault response (training provided). An additional stipend is paid for crisis coverage. Some early morning, evening, and weekend hours will also be necessary for wellness groups and outreach events, and to meet with clients in accordance with their scheduling needs.

This is a full-time, salaried position with a benefits package that includes an agency-paid health care plan, a retirement plan, and paid time off. Qualifications: Master's degree in human services field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience providing human services. An equivalent combination of education and highly relevant experience may be considered. Case management or other relevant experience is required; experience working with DV and SA survivors strongly preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish strongly valued. Must have strong computer/technology skills and excellent communication skills. Candidate must be willing and able to travel frequently throughout Hopeline's six-county service area, as well as for occasional in-state training and conferences (mileage reimbursed for travel beyond assigned office location).
