    Description

    Job Title: Executive Director

    Location: Bozeman MT

    Terms: Full Time, Exempt

    Salary: $138,000 - $145,000

Haven is the only nonprofit in Gallatin County serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence, sex trafficking, and stalking. Our approach makes us unique — everything we do is deeply and genuinely rooted in empowerment. We connect survivors to available resources and the help they need while trusting they should be the ones to decide what’s best for their own journey.

Haven began serving survivors in 1979. Over the last four decades, Haven has worked to both provide safe intervention for survivors of domestic violence, as well as to prevent future violence from occurring. We believe increased awareness through community education can make us all allies in ending domestic violence.

The Executive Director serves as the face of Haven, leading its strategic vision, community presence, and operational management. This is a forward-facing role, focused on building and maintaining relationships with community members, donors, and leaders in the domestic violence (DV) intervention and prevention field. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors, ensuring the organization’s credibility as a leader in the community and the DV sector while securing funding to sustain its critical work.

    Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership

    • Develop, refine, and implement Haven’s mission-driven strategy with the Board and staff.
    • Foster a transparent and collaborative relationship with the Board, providing regular updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
    • Lead an inclusive and supportive organizational culture, inspiring staff through effective communication of Haven’s vision.
    • Educate the Board on issues related to intimate partner violence to inform decision-making.
    • Partner with the Board Governance Committee to create a diverse and representative Board of Directors.
    • Directly supervise key leadership team members: Chief Operating Officer, Director of Philanthropy, Associate Director of Development, Director of Finance, and Director of Communications.
    • Serve as a non-voting member of Haven’s Board of Directors and attend committee meetings as needed.

    Fund Development

    • Ensure adequate funding to achieve Haven’s strategic goals.
    • Manage a portfolio of 120+ major donors ($10,000+) and develop strategies to increase support.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy to identify and cultivate donor relationships.
    • Represent Haven at fundraising and community events, as well as in one-on-one donor meetings.
    • Support the development team in creating and executing an annual development plan.

    Infrastructure, Finance and Operations

    • Oversee high-quality service delivery while planning for current and future organizational growth.
    • Develop and maintain a business model that produces exceptional mission impact and sustained financial health.
    • Set financial priorities in the annual budget to reflect Haven’s needs and strategic goals.
    • Stay informed on best practices in DV prevention and intervention and ensure their integration into Haven’s work.

    External Relations

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national partners, coalitions, and community organizations.
    • Act as Haven’s primary spokesperson for media and press interactions.
    • Create avenues for community feedback and use insights to shape organizational risk management and strategy.
    • Enhance Haven’s national presence by networking, presenting at conferences, and collaborating with key organizations.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Address organizational challenges and emergencies as they arise.
    • Participate in Haven’s backup schedule to support critical operations.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Five or more years of executive leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, including supervision of senior level staff.
    • Deep knowledge of intimate partner violence prevention and intervention practices.
    • Extensive experience and demonstrated success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts in the 5 to 7 figure range.
    • Understanding of, and experience implementing, the Empowerment Model in a social work or domestic violence context.
    • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Excellent public speaking and communication abilities.
    • Demonstrated Equity, Inclusion & Justice (EIJ) skills and experience leading the development and implementation of organization-wide EIJ initiatives and accountability measures.
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills; excellent listener and coach with good judgment, honesty, and integrity; successful at bringing out the best in others and instilling trust.
    • Ability to influence and build credibility at all levels and establish collaborative working relationships.

    Hours of Work:

Haven has a 36-hour work week, though there are times that the Executive Director’s work schedule will go beyond 36 hours. The schedule is somewhat flexible but may include occasional nights and weekends.

    Compensation:

Haven uses a compensation equity calculator to set pay at the organization. Calculator scores are determined by responsibilities, professional and personal experience, and physical and emotional labor required to successfully meet the job requirements.

Additionally, Haven offers a competitive benefits package that includes up to 160 hours of paid time off (PTO) annually; 10 weeks of paid parental leave; health, vision and dental insurance; a wellness reimbursement program; a cell phone stipend; 3% retirement matching following the first year of employment; prorated paid holidays depending on start date and 10 paid holidays annually at the start of the next fiscal year; and a supportive, flexible work environment.
