The Cleveland Park Historical Society (CPHS) Seeks a Part-time Executive Director
The Cleveland Park Historical Society (CPHS) is a nonprofit, historic preservation and local history organization in northwest Washington, D.C., whose mission is to is to promote and protect the neighborhood’s history, architecture, human scale, and natural environment, while being sensitive to the future needs of a dynamic city. We seek a part-time Executive Director who will work with CPHS’s Board of Directors to engage with and grow membership; manage all administrative aspects of the organization; communicate with the public and relevant DC preservation organizations; and is comfortable with a variety of online platforms and Apps.
The Executive Director will have excellent communications and organizational skills for tasks including writing and editing routine communications; maintaining member and community relations; managing public queries; writing for Voices (the CPHS publication), the CPHS website, brochures, and walking tour programs; developing agendas for board meetings, coordinating and administering the monthly Architectural Review Committee (ARC) meetings, and event planning.
Technical competencies necessary include experience using WordPress to maintain and update website content; experience with the Google Apps for Nonprofits suite, creating and troubleshooting email accounts at CPHS’s domain and with online platforms for event registration (Eventbrite), email lists (Mailchimp), PayPal, and cloud backup; comfort with simple database software to maintain the membership database; ability to lay out both digital and print newsletters as well as brochures for programs and events; and proficiency in social media to maintain and update CPHS’s Facebook, Instagram, and other accounts.
The Executive Director position offers the opportunity to conduct research and enlist the resources of specialized local collections to answer member queries about the neighborhood and house histories. Knowledge of historic preservation principles, interest in historic preservation, and willingness to learn about Washington, D.C.-specific preservation policies and procedures is not essential, but a plus.
Hours will vary depending on the CPHS annual programming calendar and priorities set by the Board but will range between 30 to 40 hours per month. The work will be conducted from your home office except for board meetings and CPHS events and programs.
Salary range is $35–$40 an hour, depending on experience.
Residency in Washington, D.C., is required. Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
