    The Director of Food Security will be a thought leader in empowering the community to support older adults in building sustainable food independence. The Director of Food Security will be responsible for developing and coordinating food security initiatives, including direct oversight of existing programs and services, and the introduction of new and innovative approaches to building food independence. The Director of Food Security will play a critical role in supporting the strategic guidance of Brandywine Valley Active Aging’s food security initiatives through comprehensive program evaluation, data collection, and results analysis.

    Program Management and Oversight (50% of time)

    • Coordinate, lead, and manage current food security programs and services
    • Ensure successful enrollment of older adults in benefits and entitlement programs related to food security
    • Provide change management leadership in developing new programs
    • Ensure organizational compliance

    Advocacy, Collaboration, and Education (20% of time)

    • Recomend policies and procedures and strategic initiatives to support food security work
    • Serve as the organization's liaison to food alliance committees and task forces
    • Build awareness of food security programs and services available to older adults
    • Advocate for change

    Data Collection and Analysis (15% of time) Note: the organization requires a less than 5% error rate for all client data

    • Encure complete and accurate documentation of required declarations and disclosures
    • Complete annual (ongoing) nutritional assessments
    • Create and distribute comprehensive monthly reporting

    Inter-Departmental Support (15% of time)

    • Provide direct support to the nutrtition services department
    • Provide indirect support to the information & assistance and case management department

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

    1. Bachelor’s degree preferred; however, comparable education and experience will be considered. Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
    2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with area services,community partners, and resources.
    3. Desire to work with diverse populations and the ability to put service of others before self.
    4. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    5. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
    6. Ability to prioritize work and to appropriately delegate to meet deadlines.
    7. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, tact, and professionalism.
    8. Ability to function effectively within a crisis environment and make appropriate and safe decisions using a integrity-focused approach to providing interventions.
    9. In-depth familiarity with computers and computer software including Microsoft Office. Strong attention to detail and solid understanding of basic math skills.
    10. High level of accuracy, efficiency, and punctuality.
    11. Personal transportation and the ability to drive company vehicles for travel daily, if needed, throughout the County and occasionally for local, regional, or national conferences or training.
