    • Our network of Greenmarkets, Farmstands, and the work of GrowNYC Wholesale ensure that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, healthiest local food.
    • We build and support community and school gardens through volunteer days, technical assistance, training, grants and more.
    • We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that provide meaningful interactions with the natural environment.

    TEMPORARY EDUCATION PROGRAM MANAGER (Full-time):

    Position Summary

    The Temporary Education Manager will lead and manage a 7-week summer program for 12 participants ages 16-19, focused on GrowNYC’s core initiatives: food access, conservation, education, and green space. This role requires strategic planning, program implementation, and day-to-day coordination, including organizing field trips and professional development opportunities. The Temporary Education Manager will directly supervise a seasonal Workforce Development Interns, oversee recruitment and scheduling, and serve as the primary liaison with internal departments and external partners. The Education Manager will also contribute to GrowNYC’s food access education efforts by developing and expanding K-12 curricula for students and families.

    Requirements

    Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

    • Lead a 7-week internship for Youth Workforce Development participants, ages 16-19, that provides a comprehensive introduction to GrowNYC’s food access, conservation, education, and green space programs.
    • Serve as the primary liaison with GrowNYC departments to integrate professional development opportunities into the program, enriching interns’ learning experiences.
    • Develop strong, collaborative relationships with partner organizations fostering the planning and coordination of field trips and collaborative projects
    • Develop program materials, including lessons, curricula, best practices, policies, and procedures to support smooth program delivery and participant success.
    • Collaborate with the Education team on achieving various program deliveries including materials development, planning and facilitating workshops, and strategy.
    • Collect, track and analyze program data to leverage key insights on program’s efficacy and produce relevant reports and programmatic adjustments.
    • Manage and distribute relevant communications that highlight our youth and food programming.
    • Develop and implement strategy for expanding our Youth Workforce Development interns alumni network through workshops, networking events and engagement opportunities.

    Qualifications

    • 2-5 years managing similar education initiatives, supervising staff, interns, volunteers, and/or students.
    • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, food and nutrition, and environmental education.
    • Experience teaching pre-K through college-age students and familiarity with the NYC school system and experience with public programming for families and intergenerational audiences.
    • Possess a skillset that includes personal composure, decisiveness, ability to develop others, project management, safety management, planning and organizing, conflict management, team building, and managing performance.
    • Proven ability and desire to collaborate with diverse groups of NYC residents and staff from diverse backgrounds in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, including trans* and nonbinary, sexual orientation, ability, class and religion
    • Strong oral and written communications skills, including experience with public speaking and group facilitation
    • Highly organized with the ability to meet multiple deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
    • Resourceful, creative, energetic, and flexible.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, time management and organizational skills.
    • Experience working with diverse constituencies.
    • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Word.

    Physical Requirements

    Programming requires working outdoors and long hours on your feet and the ability to lift and carry materials up to 50lbs and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

    Schedule

    This position is full-time (35-40 hours per week), Monday-Friday, field-based position for approximately 60% of the time with some work from home and in-office time as needed. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required with advance notice.

    Compensation

    This position is full time and non-exempt and salaried. The salary is $65,000-$70,000 per year and includes full benefits upon meeting the waiting period. (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness available to employees) Where travel throughout the city is an essential component of job duties, a metrocard will be provided. This is a temporary position funded through October 2025.

    Location

    Governors Island Teaching Garden, GrowNYC’s office at 100 Gold Street in Manhattan, and virtually, with weekly site visits varying across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, or the Bronx. The final schedule of locations will be distributed when the position is offered.
