    The Andromeda Community Initiative (ACI) is a nonprofit workforce development entity providing free hands-on and certification driving training in green/energy-efficient construction and general construction/masonry to persons seeking to escape poverty through employment in the industry. Headquartered in Long Island City, New York, ACI provides quality training and workforce development programming imparted by subject matter experts to persons in criminal justice reentry, overcoming homelessness, cycles of welfare dependence and other barriers as well as job placement and internship support, bridging the gap between companies in need of qualified workers and individuals seeking quality, career ladder employment. ACI is seeking a dedicated and passionate Internship Coordinator/Job Developer to oversee and manage our Green Construction/Energy Efficiency Internship program and engage in unsubsidized job placement.

    Essential Functions: Reporting to ACI’s Director of Job Development, The Internship Coordinator/Job Developer will be an experienced professional with program administration, job placement, social service, and/or similar background and will implement programming which is structured to secure seventy seven (77) successful NYSERDA internship placements within a program year (or unsubsidized job placements). All internship or job placements must be in energy efficiency/green construction and will happen over the course of the program year, at the conclusion of six NYSERDA funded trainings. All placements must occur within six months of each cycle’s end date.

    The Coordinator will carry out this work by:

    • Planning and adapting a workflow that will connect graduates to opportunities in a timely manner;
    • Recruiting employers interested in hosting interns in energy efficiency internships (in conjunction with the program’s Job Developers);
    • Mastering and shepherding employers through NYSERDA’s application process (including completing applications in conjunction with employers);
    • Matching ACI graduates with relevant openings [based on interests, skills/certifications secured, geographical location, Section 3 HUD criteria, social service/readiness factors and similar criteria]
    • Supporting successful internships (or placements) with weekly calls, site-visits and alike to both participants and employers;
    • Counseling clients directly towards internship or placement success and, where necessary, connecting clients to fellow ACI’s staff members for additional support in overcome client barriers;
    • Assisting interns in converting subsidized internships into fully paid positons;
    • Replacing interns and placed graduates where necessary, in instances of termination or participant departure for alternate unsubsidized employment; and
    • Securing placement verification such as employer letters or pay stubs to comply with contract mandates and tracking data in ACI’s data systems.

    Regular Activities will include:

    • Mastering the NYSERDA PON 4000 internship application process and coordinating employer applications for support;
    • Planning and implementing a focused sector-based outreach and engagement strategy targeting employers providing entry level opportunities in clean-energy and green construction;
    • Meeting with participants to understand their unique interests and circumstances, and to prepare them for interview;
    • Harnessing traditional job development approaches including cold calling, internet research, job fair attendance, and fieldwork to identify employers;
    • Transmitting client resume information and arranging for employer interviews;
    • Conducting regular internship (or job) check-in calls with both participants and employers and or site visits;
    • Updating a database of participants to express client outcomes and listing of employers participating in and interested in participating in the program;
    • Obtaining verification of internship employment; and
    • Collaborating with ACI’s program staff to insure appropriate vocational support, additional job placement and other support services;

    Competencies: The ideal internship coordinator will have:

    • Prior experience as a job developer, business developer (sales and marketing), program administrator, social service professional, and/or similar;
    • Awareness of/experience in the construction industry;
    • Personal or professional experience in a social service environment/an understanding of the barriers and issues faced by individuals in need;
    • Strong verbal and written skills suitable for formal and informal presentations, coaching, and resume development;
    • Proven ability providing individuals with coaching and support;
    • Evidenced ability to make independent judgment calls with respect to job matching and individual clients;
    • Demonstrable political sensibilities and an ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders;
    • Bilingual (Spanish) helpful but not required.

    Work Environment/Start Date: The position is available January 2025. It is 100% in-person other than with respect to expected and necessary fieldwork.
