    Descrição

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Complete applications with Veterans and determine eligibility of Veteran households applying to HCS for Veteran related services and programs;
    • Apply program regulations towards determining eligibility for the Veteran programs and housing/financial assistance programs;
    • Communicate with Veteran applicants/program participants regarding the status of their application via written and oral communication;
    • Conduct outreach at local shelters and transitional housing programs to engage Veterans in SSVF services;
    • Conduct outreach to educate residents, community, organizations, and stakeholders about HCS programs and services;
    • Interact with U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and local jurisdictions towards supporting Veterans in accessing available services, programs, and resources.
    • Advocate on the behalf of Veteran households with landlords, social service agencies, etc.;
    • Respond to emergency needs of clients in collaboration with agency case managers;
    • Refer and connect households to appropriate services to address their various needs such as emergency housing, food, utility assistance, clothing, medical care, etc.;
    • Maintain accurate written and computer based files;
    • Provide accurate and complete monthly reports;
    • Perform other HCS tasks as requested.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least two years of specialized professional experience and/or education related to eligibility determination, case management, housing education/counseling, provision of services to at risk populations, or other related fields;
    • Knowledge of VA Programs beneficial but not required. Military veterans strongly encouraged to apply.
    • Ability to understand, interpret, and explain federal, local, and state laws and regulations.
    • Experience working with special needs populations;
    • Ability to work in a faced paced environment;
    • Strong oral and written communication skills;
    • Ability to respond to multiple emergency needs with patience and diligence;
    • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate with variety of professionals including case managers, real estate, medical, and attorneys as well as with low and moderate income families from a variety of cultures;
    • Ability to translate technical information into layman’s terms;
    • Must demonstrate an ability to work with minimum supervision;
    • Must be versatile in order to handle a wide variety of duties;
    • Sensitive to the needs within the community and to individual clients;
    • Knowledge of housing law or capacity to learn;
    • Strong computer skills.

    Sick and Annual Leave which both initially accrue at 4.5 hours per pay period (annual leave accrual increases after some time at HCS)

    Birthday Holiday (taken on the day of your birthday OR must be used within 30 days of your birthday)

    4% (of salary) contribution to a 403(b) tax deferred annuity after 6 months of service

    HCS CONTRIBUTION FOR DENTAL AND VISIONS: HCS offers dental and vision coverage through BCBS, HCS will contribute 100% of employee coverage for the BCBS dental plan only. If you waive the dental coverage, this dollar amount can also be applied to your portion of your health insurance coverage. If you choose not to use our health insurance, you may apply the full amount of the HCS health insurance contribution towards family coverage for the dental plan only. Staff who elect to waive the BCBS Dental Plan and/or Vision Plans must complete a BCBS Waiver of Enrollment form.

    HCS offers and makes contributions towards employee health and dental. Employee’s may include eligible family members on these plans, but will be responsible to cover the full cost of these family member’s insurance coverages. Vision is paid 100% by the employee

    HCS CONTRIBUTION FOR HEALTH INSURANCE: HCS has Reference Health Plan – CareFirst Blue Cross/Blue Shield - Blue Choice HMO HRA Silver Plan $1,900 deductible that is the basis for the HCS contribution towards health insurance coverage for each employee. HCS will pay 100% of the employee coverage for this Reference Plan and this same dollar amount may be applied to any of the 60+ BCBS health plans you may select on the DC Health Exchange. As the cost of coverage is different for every employee (as it is based on age), attached for your information is the age grid sheet with the amounts. You may select individual coverage as well as coverage for your eligible family members. The HCS contribution remains the same whether you select individual or family coverage. HCS cannot contribute to the cost of employee health insurance that is not part of the HCS account through the DC Health Exchange.
