    Position Summary

Launched in 2018, the Groundwork Collaborative is driven by the idea that We Are The Economy: when all of us are doing well, that is when our economy thrives. We fight for progressive economic policy and narrative change that builds accountable public power, breaks up concentrations of private power, and affirmatively centers people too long left out of prosperity. We understand that taken together, these actions will lead to a stronger and more resilient economy.

Groundwork’s unique structure – part strategic communications, part think tank, and part issue advocacy organization – allows us to drive narrative and policy change with credibility, expertise, and impact. We work across four core audiences – the media, policymakers, economic experts, and grasstops leaders – and use targeted policy campaigns and timely research and messaging to advance a truly inclusive economic worldview.

We’re savvy, strategic thinkers who know how to spot an opportunity to advance our worldview and influence national economic policy debates, identify new audiences for Groundwork’s resources, and support and amplify the great work our partners are already doing so we’re all better aligned to achieve our common goals. We’re fearless in our approach to narrative change and are focused more on how to make the right economic messages popular tomorrow than we are on the poll-tested messages of today.

Groundwork is searching for an Associate Director of Digital Communications who will be our lead digital strategist, developing and helping to manage Groundwork’s digital communications portfolio and ensuring that we execute a significant portion of our overall communications strategy in a timely and coordinated manner.

This position will oversee and grow Groundwork’s online reach through digital channels, including our social media channels, website properties, newsletters, and creative digital assets such as video, graphics, and other creative and digital products. The Associate Director of Digital Communications will also be a strategist who knows how to quickly integrate digital messaging to advance the progressive narrative and worldview on the economy.

As Associate Director of Digital Communications you will…

    • Alongside the Deputy Director/Chief of Communications and Director of Communications, develop and execute long and short-term strategic digital communications plans that reach Groundwork’s core audiences.
    • Manage and develop Groundwork’s digital assets, including writing and posting content, videos, graphic design, and other digital products.
    • Work with Groundwork’s team to develop a video strategy that could include internal production and editing or working with external partners to produce content.
    • Work creatively, using all the digital communications tools at our disposal, to help create a through line narrative on the economy.
    • Regularly monitor social platforms to identify opportunities—and develop materials with other relevant staffers—to leverage, promote and publicize organizational initiatives, activities, reports, and content, and to maximize impact to expand our digital footprint and messaging guidance.
    • Conduct digital outreach, draft social media and website content, and execute other key tactics for a successful digital program.
    • Work with the Communications team to develop and track outcomes of our digital communications strategies, as well as ensure that our strategies align with our organizational goals, including on Groundwork’s social media channels, website properties, email program, and toolkits.
    • Collaborate with digital consultants and key staff working across Groundwork’s platforms to develop paid digital ad strategy, including placing ads, making ad buys and tracking, measuring, optimizing, and reporting ad performance.
    • Identify and produce digital analytics and regular reporting to inform the type of visuals, messaging, and format that we should prioritize across all digital channels.
    • Determine key performance indicators to measure progress toward achieving goals and course-correcting when needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    About you

    • You have experience developing robust digital strategies and content, which include social media, website and creative, highly-shareable content that will attract engagement and increase influence.
    • You have strong experience with the following: HTML, WordPress, Microsoft Office, InDesign, and Illustrator.
    • You have strong organizational skills and attention to detail, high initiative, strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and mature judgment.
    • You closely follow and post on social media platforms and are excited about using it as a tool to advance Groundwork’s worldview.
    • You excel at creating compelling graphics, page layouts, and design templates for research papers, social media graphics, and more.
    • You have an understanding of web analytics platforms, including Google Analytics and Twitter/X Analytics.
    • You have a keen awareness of the news cycles and political/legislative calendars and how Groundwork’s progressive economic worldview and campaign goals might fit into them.
    • You’re a pro at multitasking and working under tight deadlines in a dynamic online environment.
    • You’re committed to a just, inclusive, and robust economy that delivers opportunity and dignity for all.
    • You’re creative and innovative, willing to try new approaches to solving old problems.

In addition, it would be a bonus if…

    • You’re familiar with the progressive economic policymaking community.
    • You have an understanding of the full Adobe Creative Suite.
    • You have design skills and can manage design freelancers.
    • You have experience in project management.
    • You have knowledge of content management systems.

The salary range for this position is $97,000 to $134,000, commensurate with experience. We offer a generous benefits package, including five weeks of vacation and personal leave, two week-long office closures, additional time off for floating and federal holidays, zero-premium health insurance, a generous HRA, a retirement match of up to 6%, up to 16 weeks parental leave, health club and cell-phone reimbursements, among other benefits.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, and employment terms will be subject to future collective bargaining.
