    WHO IS COMUNIDAD?

Established in 2009, Comunidad was born out of a collective desire to shift systems that hold back our success. In 2015, we re-founded as a centrally youth-led organization.

We envision Latinos flourishing—not by squeezing into systems that weren’t built for us, but by reshaping them entirely. We embrace our culture, talent, and power to transform what holds us back. We understand that simply participating in mainstream systems is a privilege, so we seek out those who have been excluded, those whose brilliance has been overlooked.

We are looking for change makers and community builders for our next phase of community-led innovation and joy.

This is not charity work. We are looking for organizers eager to ditch the direct-service model and work alongside leaders to change our communities for the better. Our work is not about handing out services—it’s about shifting power.

We focus on issues generated from community needs, ideas, talent, and innovation. If you’re excited about organizing in any of these areas, we want to hear from you:

    Key Focus Areas:

    • Youth Leadership Development (Get Out the Vote, workforce development)
    • Economic & Systems Innovation (small business, cooperatives, union jobs)
    • Democracy & Community Power (grassroots organizing, campaigns)
    • Environment & Health (green jobs, health promotoras, pesca, landscaping)
    • Rural Community Development (increasing access for rural communities)

You do NOT need to be an expert in these areas. If you’re eager to learn from communities, we want to hear from you.

    WHAT ORGANIZERS DO

We are looking for change makers with a mix of talent scouts, teachers and coaches, community leaders, strategists, field researchers, policy nerds, campaign builders, drivers of action, evaluators, administrators, listeners, agitators, and team builders.

The job is rarely boring. If selected for the first round you will be sent a typical week for organizers at each of these levels: Senior organizer, Organizer, Associate Organizer, Organizer Trainee to further explore a possible role for you. Organizers find people who want to change things for the better and work with them to build their leadership through:

    • One-on-one meetings :focused 40-minute relational conversations that build relationships and surface issues for collective action.
    • Trainings that develop organizing skills and inspire community members to take action
    • Community-led issue research to identify solutions that come from the people most impacted.
    • Opportunities to take action—not just talk about change, but make it happen.
    • Weekly reflections and coaching to sharpen strategy and keep learning.

Organizers aren’t stuck behind desks; they’re in communities, knocking on doors, holding meetings, and working with everyday people to shift power.

    WHY WORK FOR COMUNIDAD?

    Big Impact

Comunidad has spent tens of thousands of hours in listening seasons, shaping campaigns that have transformed jobs, environmental policies, youth leadership, elections, education, racial equity, and economic justice. We don’t accept slow, incremental change in the face of urgent crises—we push for what is necessary.

    Great People

You will work with a visionary, diverse, and driven team that takes the work seriously—but finds joy along the way. We don’t just build power, we build relationships. We work hard, laugh often, and have each other’s backs.

    Room to Grow

Whether you’re just starting out or already an experienced organizer, there’s space for you to take on big, meaningful projects and grow as a leader. We provide coaching, mentorship, and stretch opportunities for those who are ready to step up.

    WHAT MAKES A GREAT ORGANIZER?

    • A Drive to Act – not rigid ideological passion nor abstract commitment to “the people,” but a clear sense of what’s wrong, impatience in the face of that wrong, and a drive to address it. A willingness to make things happen and take calculated risks.
    • Curiosity – A drive to know people, question the status quo, understand how power works, and understand what is behind any curtain or inside every opaque box.
    • Empathy & Relationship Building – The ability to listen deeply and build trust across race, culture, class, gender, and age.
    • Self-Reflection & Drive for Growth – Someone who knows themselves, understands their motivations, strengths, and weaknesses, and strives to grow.
    • Intelligence – Not necessarily degrees, but critical thinking, adaptability, and the ability to challenge conventional wisdom, make judgments in complicated situations, and show flexibility.
    • A Track Record- Some evidence of engaging with people and responding to situations across school, community, or work, with success in their field or endeavors.
    • Perseverance – The work isn’t always glamorous. It’s phone calls, house meetings, and constant movement. Change comes from doing the daily work. Centering a deep and tested understanding that organizing is not about giving information/resources but gathering ideas and strategizing and collectively creating better systems together.
    • A Belief in Youth Leadership – Young people are leaders today, not “someday.” You should be ready to learn with and from them.
    • Integrity – Trustworthiness and the ability to stay true to commitments and responsibilities.
    • Sense of Humor – The road to justice is long—find joy along the way.
