    The NASH Director/Senior Director of Financial Planning and Administration (“Director”) provides strategic financial leadership and operational oversight for the organization. The Director will work under the supervision of NASH’s President and Chief Operating Officer to lead processes related to financial planning and management across the organization. In collaboration with NASH’s leadership, operations, and development team members, the incumbent will oversee and manage the organization’s accounting system, financial statements, transactions, budget and reporting, cash flow, annual audit, and preparation of annual tax forms. The ideal candidate will have experience in grant and non-profit financial management, including familiarity with completing and filing IRS Form 990.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Financial Leadership and Oversight of Finance Operations and Processes

    • Control and guide all finance related workflows for NASH, including processes and policies for payments and reimbursement, the chart of accounts and coding classes as needed to effectively track expense by program and/or grant and/or activity type
    • Customize financial/grant reporting tools and templates based on NASH’s organization-wide or specific grant reporting requirements
    • Lead transaction management and review to ensure that all records are accurate and complete, including:
    • Bank and credit card reconciliations
    • Accounts payable and cash disbursements
    • Accounts receivable and cash receipts
    • Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accrual and asset adjustments, including grant activity and revenue-generating activity
    • Direct and indirect cost allocations
    • Prepare and coordinate all financial statements and reporting for NASH, and working with NASH team members to identify, analyze, and explain any significant variances including:
    • Statement of Activities (monthly)
    • Statement of Cash inflow and outflow (monthly)
    • Budget vs. Actual Reports (monthly)
    • Grant budgets and reports (annually or as requested by funder)
    • Manage and maintain NASH’s compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements, including:
    • Coordinate all workflows related to the annual audit (including managing schedule, responding to audit requests, reviewing draft of audit report, finalizing the audit based on board approval)
    • Prepare and file the annual IRS Form 990 and other applicable Federal and State forms
    • Prepare and submit the Annual Charitable Registration Form
    • Manage and lead on resolution for any letters received from the IRS

    Financial Administration and Management

    • Ensure that NASH maintains compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements
    • Prepare quarterly financial snapshot/analysis for NASH’s President and Board
    • Lead annual budgeting process and provide analysis to make future projections
    • Oversee NASH investment and cash management strategy; make data-informed recommendations for process improvements and system enhancements
    • Provide oversight and support to NASH Operations and Finance Coordinator to ensure that accounts receivable and accounts payable are maintained with accurate records, receipts, and accounting codes; support professional development as needed
    • Collaborate with Program Directors on budget estimates, projected spend, and tracking expenses and variances for NASH’s programs and grant funded initiatives
    • Implement a transparent process for Program Directors to submit and monitor timely and appropriate spending down of funds, disbursements of stipends and subgrant payments, and reimbursements
    • Facilitate regular communication and collaboration among NASH leadership and Program Directors to gather insights and ensure that financial processes are efficient and aligned with organizational goals and objectives

    Other duties as assigned commensurate with the incumbent’s qualifications and skills.

    Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

    As no individual candidate meets every qualification, we encourage candidates who meet most of these requirements to apply:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field (CPA designation preferred)
    • 4+ years of experience working in a role with similar finance and budgeting management responsibilities (non-profit or higher education experience is a plus) 
    • In-depth knowledge of non-profit accounting standards and regulations, including familiarity with IRS Form 990 
    • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Bill.com, etc.)  
    • Advanced Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams), particularly Microsoft Excel

    • Professionalism in written and oral communications, with the ability to interact collegially with a range of coworkers, members, and partners 
    • Proactive attitude and initiative to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements 
    • Readiness to learn and adapt to new technologies, platforms, and digital tools 
    • Discretion in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality

    Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and demonstrated skill level, with an initially budgeted range of $100,000 – $125,000 annually.

    This position is Fully Remote. At present, NASH staff work remotely across the Unites States in a variety of time zones. Employees are expected to be available for virtual meetings between 11am - 5pm ET to accommodate this geographic diversity. The individual in this position will be required to conduct limited travel (approximately 1-2 trips annually) and, if required by NASH, will be reimbursed according to our organization’s travel policies.
