    Description

    The role of the Program and Literacy Coordinator is to provide high-quality instruction, support, and leadership to produce high-quality outcomes in reading and literacy for students. A Better World’s Program and Literacy Coordinator assists with establishing program-wide and individual reading goals. Additionally, the Program and Literacy Coordinator will provide interventions to youth and work with teachers and reading buddies to implement additional support. The goal of this position is to oversee all logistics for the i-Ready reading program and reading buddy program for the best implementation to reflect literacy growth. This role oversees daily operations, staff management, program development, and overall implementation of A Better World’s afterschool program. The Program and Literacy Coordinator ensures a safe, enriching environment for students while coordinating activities that align with the program's goals and objectives.

    Reading/Literacy Responsibilities:

    • Ensure all aspects of the reading program align with A Better World’s mission and vision
    • Coordinate and facilitate program-wide literacy program (i-Ready). Provide support to teachers and provide strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the curriculum
    • Assist struggling students with improving their literacy skills by providing content to teachers and volunteers as well as content for reading buddy program.
    • Collaborates with team and program to promote the learning and implementation of best practices in literacy instruction
    • Creates and examines data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction
    • Conduct individual and program-wide assessments to evaluate levels and targeted interventions
    • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services through i-Ready and reading buddy program
    • Meet regularly with the classroom teachers to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student’s needs or as requested by the classroom teacher
    • Maintain all communications, schedules, and content work for all reading buddy volunteers
    • Assist in creating assigned times/ scheduling for students to participate in i-Ready and reading buddy program
    • Ensure all partner sites have all students in the i-Ready system.
    • Provide help and support to partner sites with any i-Ready system issues
    • Other duties as assigned by leadership team

    Program Responsibilities:

    Program Management

    • Point of contact on campus when leadership is out of office for outreach or meetings
    • Develop and implement program schedules, activities, and curriculum that promote academic, social, and emotional development
    • Ensure activities are age-appropriate and align with the interests and needs of the students
    • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary to meet goals

    Staff Supervision and Development (Working with Leadership Team)

    • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise program staff, including instructors and volunteers
    • Conduct regular staff meetings, provide feedback, and support professional development opportunities
    • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and collaboration among staff members

    Safety and Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines, including emergency procedures and risk management protocols
    • Maintain proper documentation and records related to participant enrollment, attendance, and health information
    • Collaborate with school administration and community stakeholders to address safety concerns and maintain a secure environment

    Communication with Community

    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with local schools, parents, caregivers, school personnel, and community partners
    • Communicate program goals, activities, and updates through newsletters, meetings, and other forms of outreach

    Evaluation and Reporting

    • Collect and analyze data to measure program outcomes and participant satisfaction
    • Prepare regular reports and presentations for program stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement
    • Use evaluation findings to inform program enhancements and strategic planning
