    Organization Description:

    Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to thousands of children with serious illnesses and their families annually – all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn, in dozens of hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

    Position Description:

    The Senior Director of Development is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing and executing annual fundraising efforts for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Experienced with development teams, the Senior Director of Development will be a thought-partner to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), partnering with strategies that increase donor support, cultivate relationships, and support Camp's strategic priorities. The Senior Director of Development provides oversight to key fundraising teams, ensuring collaboration within the department, throughout Camp, and with individual donors, corporate partners, foundation leaders and third-party groups.

    Our Senior Director of Development can expect to…

    • Manage a personal prospect portfolio, securing principal gift support to meet ambitious revenue goals critical to advancing key elements of our dynamic mision.
    • In partnership with the CDO, develop strategic plans and design successful fundraising initiatives while closing leadership commitments for organizational fundraising priorities.
    • Collaborate with and mentor direct reports and staff to achieve annual revenue goals, monitor fundraising budgets, and develop strategies aligned with long-term goals and objectives for annual giving, corporate partnerships and peer-to-peer departments.
    • Maintain a dedicated departmental focus on sourcing new donors and growing the donor base in both the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
    • Encourage continual assessments, reviews, and evaluations of departmental activities, policies, and procedures.
    • In partnership with the CDO, provide metrics, monitor results, and evaluate the effectiveness of annual fundraising initiatives.
    • Coordinate fundraising efforts with the SeriousFun Children's Network Support Center and member camps.
    • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on development-related communications.
    • Clearly communicate expectations, goals, and departmental objectives.
    • Champion an inspiring vision and demonstrate a sincere commitment to organizational success.
    • Effectively engage program staff for essential fundraising support activities and works closely with departmental colleagues on community/corporate partnerships, blended asks and other integrated development efforts.
    • In collaboration with the Director of Foundations, work to ensure that Camp is pursuing foundation grants that align with organizational priorities.
    • Maintains knowledge of trends and best practices to inform, enrich and refresh ongoing fundraising efforts.
    • Capably supervise staff working remotely and effectively facilitate virtual collaboration with colleagues.
    • In partnership with the CDO, ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors, and adhere to codes of ethical principles and standards of conduct for fundraising professionals.
    • Support reports and presentations for each Board of Directors meeting (3-4 times annually).
    • Support agendas, reports, and presentations for the Development Committee conference calls (3-4 annually); attend meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Our Senior Director of Development should have…

    • Minimum 10 years of experience in nonprofit development and fundraising, including supervisory experience.
    • A proven track record of effective leadership and successful fundraising.
    • The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outllook and Raiser's Edge software.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and written / oral communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and tools.
    • The ability to operate a computer for most of the workday with appropriate rest periods. Most working hours will be spent in a typical office environment.
    • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • The ability to travel to assigned worksites.
    • A valid Driver's license and driving record which meets employer insurance carrier requirements.
