    The Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) seeks an experienced, versatile, and enterprising digital communications expert to lead and expand the organization’s social media strategy, audience, and impact in order to advance our mission to help communities hold oil and gas corporations accountable for the massive costs of climate change.

    The Social Media Manager will devise and lead strategies to reach key audiences and craft a wide range of online content about the fossil fuel industry’s decades-long campaigns to deceive the public about climate change, as well as the growing movement in communities, courts, and Congress to hold climate polluters accountable. This position will be responsible for managing social media accounts for both the Center for Climate Integrity (CCI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and ExxonKnews, CCI’s climate accountability reporting project.

    A member of CCI’s communications department, the Social Media Manager position is fully remote and will report to the Communications Director.

    Key responsibilities

    • Devise, lead, and execute a data-informed digital growth strategy that will expand CCI’s online footprint and audience across social media channels and email.
    • Manage CCI’s day-to-day digital content strategy, including:
      • Overseeing the planning of a social media calendar across various platforms.
      • Drafting copy for organic and paid content.
      • Working with Creative Lead to produce video and graphic assets.
      • Tracking metrics across all social platforms.
      • Overseeing and executing CCI’s email program.
      • Building and maintaining relationships with digital influencers and allied groups in order to amplify climate accountability content and coverage.
    • In collaboration with CCI’s communications team and others, identify content opportunities and write copy for social media, emails, and toolkits.
    • Work with team members to uphold and enhance brand, messaging, and voice across channels.
    • Monitor the news cycle and social media feeds in order to respond to breaking news and ensure timely, relevant content.
    • Stay informed about best digital and social media practices and trends in order to adjust strategy and tactics as necessary.
    • Position will require occasional travel and work outside normal business hours

    Requirements:

    • At least 5 years of experience as a primary contributor to the digital strategy of a nonprofit, advocacy, news, campaign, or similar organization.
    • Professional experience running and supervising social media campaigns and accounts on various platforms (such as the Meta Business Suite, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and TikTok) and tracking and reporting analytics. Experience with monitoring and analytics programs preferred.
    • Video editing experience. Experience making direct-to-camera and vertical videos, either personally or coaching others to speak on camera, is a plus.
    • Familiarity with graphic and video programs, including the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and/or CapCut.
    • Strong project management and time management skills. Experience with project management software is a plus.
    • Understanding of best digital practices, as well as desire to stay up to date with new trends and a willingness to experiment and learn.
    • Excellent writing, grammar, and copy editing skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to convey complex concepts in clear and concise language.
    • Experience managing multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, as well as producing clean copy under tight deadlines.
    • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with multiple staff and stakeholders across a remote, nationwide organization.
    • Familiarity with climate, environmental, legal, and/or corporate accountability advocacy and messaging.
    • Sound editorial judgment.

    Technology Requirements

    CCI is an all-remote organization, and candidates will need to arrange for some of their own infrastructure and tools. A laptop computer and work cell phone will be provided, but the selected candidate will be required to have access to:

    Compensation and Benefits

    • CCI salaries are based on the organization’s job classification system. The classification system consists of salary ranges which are updated annually based on market data.
