ABOUT EDUCATIONAL ALLIANCE
Educational Alliance (EA), one of New York City’s original settlement houses, was founded in 1889 to offer educational, social, and cultural services to Jewish immigrants arriving to the Lower East Side. Today, EA is a proudly Jewish nonprofit social service provider and serves people of all backgrounds throughout Lower Manhattan. We have a powerful impact on our community through intertwined programs that include education, arts and culture, substance abuse and prevention, older adult services, health and wellness, and community-building. Every EA program has a firm commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and community.
Educational Alliance emphasizes innovation and flexibility in our programming that allows us to explore new initiatives in social services delivery. Examples include a one-of-a-kind early childhood program that integrates families from all social strata, a family resource center that marshals an incredible array of services in a “one-stop shop”, and a drug treatment program that holistically addresses the underlying, individual causes of addiction. Many of these programs have served as models for government and other nonprofits nationwide. We believe that the right programs can dramatically unleash the potential – for happiness, productivity, and creativity – in people who often don’t have that opportunity.
