MISSION STATEMENT: To help transform the social and economic conditions in South Los Angeles that foster addiction, crime, violence, and poverty by building a community institution capable of involving thousands in creating, influencing, and changing public policy.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Community Coalition (CoCo) is a non-profit organization founded by now-Mayor Karen Bass that works to address social and economic conditions in South LA by providing a platform for everyday residents to fight for solutions that build up the community. Since 1990, CoCo has built a groundbreaking, community-driven approach to creating change. We elevate our members' voices, and tackle the root causes of poverty, crime, and violence. CoCo's projects and victories include, among others:

• Leading efforts to improve the built environment for healthier community outcomes that center current residents, such as the following, among others:
• Ensuring community voice in local development efforts
• Advancing campaigns and partnerships to promote park equity and transform land into community assets
• Stopping the expansion, and curbing the overconcentration of liquor stores in South LA

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This role serves a versatile staff leader responsible for moving and aligning the organization around key objectives tied to advancing health equity in South LA. A core pillar of this role will be leading CoCo’s partnership with the LA County Department of Public Health’s Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) initiative and other service providers in Service Planning Area 6 (SPA 6). SAPC advances efforts to reduce addiction and substance use in SPA 6/South LA by providing prevention education workshops, administering community needs assessments, and launching campaigns to galvanize everyday residents around addressing nuisance sites and land use issues that facilitate unhealthy environments and addiction. Programming and strategies include, but are not limited to: the convening, coordination and planning with the SPA 6 Coalition, the internal management of prevention staff, oversight of contracts and billing, and participation in county-wide prevention initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):

Collaborative Prevention Strategies (80% of time):

• Manage the planning and coordination of public health prevention activities (i.e. resource fairs and community programs) in partnership with coalition partners, the COO, prevention staff, program directors and community outreach and organizing teams.
• Oversee external partner relationships (with LA County and the SPA 6 Coalition) to ensure partners are supported, informed and co-leading efforts to help accomplish collective goals.
• Establish and maintain infrastructure and systems to track the progress of multiple project-based contract deliverables. This includes the establishment of project timelines, quarterly deliverables check-in meetings with staff and project teams, etc.
• Prepare reports for internal and external audiences on an as-needed basis.
• Coordinate with the Finance Department, COO, and other executives to support organizational capacity to fully bill for prevention specific funding contracts.
• Perform quality assurance checks with organizational records to ensure organizational compliance and successful fiscal and programmatic audits.
• Work in conjunction with the external evaluation teams to develop and execute data research and evaluation efforts to support overall goals and objectives.
• Supervise and provide day-to-day support to prevention team members, including interns and part-time employees as assigned.
• Responsible for budgeting and community outreach.

Co-Facilitate the Prevention Network Programming (20% of time):

• Cultivate strategic partnerships and alliances with service providers and agencies within SPA 6 to strengthen and lead the Prevention Network, a cohort of local providers on the front lines of providing resources and services to the community.
• Coordinate with the Chief Culture Officer to build out a Prevention Network strategy to help strengthen, improve, and build the capacity of local community-based service providers in South LA.
• In collaboration with the Executive Team and consultants, manage efforts to help build the capacity of the Prevention Network via responsive training sessions in areas such as community organizing, grantmaking/fundraising strategy, and best practices for hiring and recruitment.
• Manage opportunities and programs with the Prevention Network that leverage CoCo's position as a grassroots organizing institution to involve and provide strategic support to Prevention Network providers to seize landscape opportunities that can improve the social safety net.

CORE COMPETENCIES AND EXPECTATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a 3+ year track record of successfully leading health and/or prevention-focused activities and managing efforts to promote collective impact. They should have/develop a strong articulation of Community Coalition’s core values, mission, and purpose and aligns them with their conduct and representation of the organization; demonstrate an ability to provide leadership and support for larger projects/efforts with independence and impact; continue building their knowledge around the landscape and the social determinants of health impacting the community as well as,

• Work diligently to articulate and apply the core values, mission, and purpose of the organization to their work
• Continue to develop and demonstrate the application of basic organizing skills
• Proactively seek to increase knowledge of the prevention landscape
