    Grants Accountant

    Location: San Francisco, CA

    Status: Full-Time, Exempt

    Hybrid schedule: Minimum 2 days per week onsite

We’re a team of educators, strategists, trainers, and grassroots organizers who advocate for policies and develop programs that can change social norms, prevent domestic violence, and create the conditions and experiences children and adults need to heal and thrive.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    FUTURES is seeking a seasoned professional for the position of Grants Accountant. The Grants Accountant reports to and partners with the Director, Grants and Contracts Administration, and works in close collaboration with finance and program staff. The incumbent is a key Operations team member and plays a key role in full-spectrum post-award grants management. The Grants Accountant will coordinate grant management functions, including account setup, invoicing, and financial analysis and reporting.

    *Due to COVID-19, FUTURES requires employees to provide proof of full vaccination. This position will be onsite at least 2 days per week based on FUTURES’ current hybrid work policy.**

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Grants Management & Compliance:

    • Understand and monitor compliance with all financial-related grant or contract compliance requirements, including knowledge and interpretation of Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
    • Maintain and ensure compliance with the agency’s travel policies and provide training to staff.
    • Responsible for sub-recipient monitoring, including provision of technical assistance when necessary.
    • Set up new grants in all necessary systems (Financial Edge NXT, Concur, Questica), following agency standards.
    • Maintain SAM registration.
    • Complete the grant closeout process.
    • Work closely with program staff on federal grant-sponsored conference requests, and reporting, including GL reconciliation.
    • Provide training for budget managers and grant-funded staff on grant regulations and compliance.

    Reporting:

    • Meet reporting deadlines, both internal and external, and support program staff as necessary to maintain compliance.
    • Prepare and submit timely financial reports and invoices required by funding agencies (federal, state, or private funding sources) for assigned programs.
    • Complete monthly billing or cash draw for each award and contract.

    Accounting & Budgeting:

    • Review monthly financial statements and GL detail of sponsored projects, and prepare journal entries for necessary corrections.
    • Gather and provide support related to Single Audit requests and monitoring visits, including preparing reconciliations and supporting schedules.
    • Participate in month-end close, including cost allocations.
    • Prepare and/or review proposal budgets and assist with annual agency budget.
    • Serve as administrator for budgeting tool (Questica).
    • Provide input to and assist in the maintenance of finance office accounting policies and procedures.
    • Take initiative to improve efficiencies in finance office operations, procedures, and contract/grants management.
    • Act as backup, as necessary, for other finance staff.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

    • A Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, business or a related field
    • A minimum of 5 years general and fund accounting experience, plus 3 years grants management, budget, and compliance experience (8 years total)
    • Nonprofit experience strongly preferred
    • Strong financial management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to change
    • Excellent communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people, providers, and agencies
    • Demonstrated personal initiative and ownership, as well as ability to work well in a team
    • Working knowledge of accounting software, preferably Financial Edge NXT
    • Ability to interpret contracts, requirements, policies, and procedures relating to grants, applicable laws, rules, and regulations

    SALARY & BENEFITS:

    This is a full-time exempt position. The annual non-negotiable salary is $87,500 with scheduled step increases starting after the first year of employment.
