Mission: Sharing the view from space to promote conservation for people and the planet.

    About the Position

SkyTruth is seeking a Biodiversity Engagement Lead to steer our biodiversity initiatives, with a focus on the 30x30 Progress Tracker, a platform that monitors progress toward protecting 30% of the world’s lands and waters by 2030. Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, this role will serve as the primary bridge between SkyTruth and the biodiversity conservation community, helping civil society organizations, governments, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities leverage the 30x30 Progress Tracker and other SkyTruth tools to advocate for, implement, and monitor area-based conservation commitments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships

    • Cultivate and manage relationships with key product users, including NGOs, government agencies, journalists, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities to drive adoption and impact of the 30x30 Progress Tracker and other SkyTruth tools.
    • Identify new opportunities for collaboration and develop partnerships that expand SkyTruth’s reach and strengthen the Tracker’s role in supporting conservation decision-making.

    User Support

    • Ensure the Progress Tracker serves the needs of conservation advocates, policymakers, under-resourced government agencies, journalists, and other key stakeholders.
    • Work with representatives of Indigenous Peoples and local communities to explore how the tool can support their efforts in securing land and marine tenure.
    • Gather user feedback to inform tool improvements and ensure accessibility and relevance.
    • Lead user workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing events.

    Communications

    • Represent SkyTruth and the 30x30 Progress Tracker at conferences, coalition meetings, training events, webinars, and various online and in-person events.
    • Contribute to reports, case studies, and blog posts demonstrating the tool’s impact.
    • Develop materials (presentations, guides, and briefings) to help partners integrate the tool into their conservation strategies and campaigns.
    • Support marketing and outreach efforts to enhance visibility and adoption.

    Internal Coordination & Strategy

    • Work closely with SkyTruth’s product team to understand and translate user needs into technical improvements, and help prioritize improvements.
    • Help shape the long-term vision for SkyTruth’s biodiversity portfolio informed by emerging opportunities and conservation trends.

    Key Attributes and Qualifications

    • Experience in relationship management or partnerships, ideally in biodiversity conservation, geospatial technology, or environmental policy.
    • Passionate about biodiversity conservation and the role of open data.
    • Strong communicator, with experience representing organizations in public settings and facilitating cross-sector collaborations.
    • Experience engaging conservation NGOs, governments, or Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
    • Comfortable navigating both policy and technical discussions, with the ability to translate between scientific, technical, and advocacy communities.
    • Experience in designing and facilitating workshops, webinars, or trainings.
    • Organized, proactive, and able to drive projects forward in multi-stakeholder environments.

    Desirable

    • 3-5 years of experience in conservation policy, biodiversity monitoring, international environmental NGOs, or a related field.
    • Familiarity with global biodiversity frameworks (e.g., Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, 30x30).
    • Understanding of equity considerations in conservation, including the role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in biodiversity protection.
    • Experience working with geospatial data and GIS tools, with the ability to assist in data acquisition, validation, and QA/QC (or eagerness to learn).
    • Experience in designing and implementing user acquisition strategies for digital tools.
    • Understanding of nonprofit operations and environmental advocacy.

Candidates can be located anywhere in the United States and must be able to reliably accommodate meetings across North American time zones. Periodic domestic and international travel may be necessary, and in-person team retreats are typically held twice per year.

We seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. SkyTruth is an equal-opportunity employer. We hire and promote qualified professionals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, gender identity, national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, genetic information, marital status, disability, age, membership in an employee organization, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factors. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees of SkyTruth and our partners, vendors, suppliers, and contractors.

    Our Interview Process

Top qualified candidates will be invited to schedule an initial 60-minute interview with our hiring manager.
