    Summary of the Position

    This is a contract-funded position for a rapid-response initiative that the NYIC is undertaking to support vulnerable migrants and asylum-seekers throughout New York State. This position is funded through August 2025 and may be renewed for one more year, through August 2026. The continuation of this position beyond the time frame stated is contingent upon available funding.

    The Manager of Community Programming (Upstate - Capital Region) will oversee local and regional service coordination, law related mass resource and family fairs as well as legal clinics (offering benefit enrollment, law related supports and services, etc.) for the Capital Region, Upper Hudson Valley and Central NY.

    Position Details:

    The Manager of Community Programming (Upstate - Capital Region) is based in Albany and will report to the Director of Community Programming, and will work very closely with both the members of the Policy & Programs and Advocacy teams, as well as external consultants. Under the direction of the Director Community Programming, the Manager of Community Programming, Capital Region will plan and execute events designed to provide services to immigrant community members, in close partnership with NYIC member organizations. The Manager will lead our community events which will be created to bring services and trainings to communities across the Capital Region, Upper Hudson Valley and Central NY, while working closely with partner agencies to provide a full-fleet of services. Those services range from legal screenings and Know Your Rights trainings, to financial empowerment education. The Manager will also bring consulates to provide identification services to their communities. Based on community need assessments, the Manager may also design and implement new initiatives focused on topics like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, housing, health, and other service areas. The Manager will provide support and leadership on other immigrant-serving events as needed, including collaborative legal clinics and rapid response events.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Organize community resource events in public schools, bringing consular services, legal clinics, financial training, and wraparound services to underserved populations throughout the Capital Region.
    • Support legal clinics for underserved communities, including planning and coordination of clinics, connecting organizers to NYIC outreach or volunteer management staff, staffing tables, inviting members providing wrap-around services to table, providing materials and other tasks related to the coordination of partners in service of our target community.
    • Lead and/or support rapid response events in collaboration with NYIC members and partners as needed.
    • Build community needs assessment and outreach models to ensure that services are reaching a diverse array of immigrant communities.
    • Manage project implementation including scope, fulfillment of grant deliverables, reports and project budgets.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with diverse consulates, service providers, funders, elected officials, and strategic partners and allies throughout New York State.
    • Engage NYIC member organizations and other partners in large scale community outreach events.
    • Lead the integration of NYIC policy and advocacy initiatives with community-facing events throughout the region.
    • Provide translation and interpretation support in relation to Key to the City events and NYIC-developed community resources.
    • Occasionally, carries and moves materials weighing 50 lbs or less.

    Qualifications:

    • Two to three years of experience working directly with immigrant communities in different capacities (i.e. case management, legal services including legal clinics, Public Health/Social Services) and with experience planning community-serving events.
    • Experience with the challenges faced by immigrant-serving and immigrant-led organizations.
    • An understanding of the common barriers to service access and integration faced by immigrant communities.
    • Experienced working with coalitions and/or stakeholders/community leaders/community organizations in the capital region (strongly preferred).
    • Strong commitment to social justice, and a clear understanding of intersectionality of oppressions (required).
    • Ability to work with a wide range of work styles and cultural backgrounds (strongly preferred) including experience supervising staff or interns is preferred.
    • This position will be required to work some weekends and evenings, as necessary. Additionally, there may be regular travel throughout the region and possible future travel within New York State.
    • Highly organized and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Good team player, comfortable taking initiative and working independently, and able to adapt as necessary to changing circumstances.
    • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks.
    • Language fluency required in either Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Russian, Arabic or Bengali.
    • Basic knowledge and understanding of Salesforce, Excel, and other modern database and information technologies.
    • Familiarity with Google Workspace and Asana.
    • Experience with elected officials, funders, or other high level stakeholders is an asset.
    • Interest in and/or knowledge of the NYIC, its members, or issues affecting immigrants in New York is an advantage.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S for any employer.

    Important facts to know about this opportunity:

    1. This position will involve extensive in-person work in the field; when not in the field the position may allow for 1 remote day and any remaining days in the Albany office.
    2. The NYIC has a staff-wide Covid-19 vaccine mandate. Staff must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination to HR before being onboarded
