    The salary range is $55,000 - $65,000 commensurate with experience. This is a full-time temporary position that requires great flexibility in terms of scheduling.   The role would start ASAP or by February 1st, 2025, and end on October 31st, 2025.

    ABOUT THE STREET VENDOR PROJECT

    The Street Vendor Project (SVP) is a grassroots membership-led organization working to defend the rights and achieve just working conditions of the community of workers, self-employed people and small business owners who make their living as vendors on the streets and sidewalks of New York City. Through direct leadership development, education, legal support, and strategic legislative advocacy, SVP builds power and community among vendors.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    The Street Vendor Project seeks an experienced and dedicated Environmental Justice Program Lead for our Environmental Justice, for Vendors, by Vendors (EJVV) program. Reporting to the Managing Director, this person will be working closely with a diverse group of stakeholders including street vendors, environmental justice leaders, food cart manufacturers, and government officials to execute a program aiming to significantly reduce the harmful emissions of equipment and engines used by food vendors, adopt new waste management practices, and improve the working conditions of street vendors in a way that centers their voices and needs.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Outreach and community engagement:

    • Conduct outreach in collaboration with member and partner organizations, including canvassing in-person
    • Facilitate informational workshops and presentations on program findings and generate interest within the vendors community to engage in the program.
    • Create educational materials on available updates and ways to get involved in the program.

    Program implementation and expansion

    • Implement and expand a pilot program to support food vendors testing new alternatives to gasoline-powered generators.
    • Lead research into scaling the electrification of food vending, in partnership with EJVV coalition members.
    • Assist in the creation of a guide on best practices for waste management for street vendors and the implementation of such practices.

    Coalition management and stakeholders' engagement

    • Hold quarterly meetings with the stakeholders to advance the implementation of the program and the expansion of it.
    • Assist in creating materials needed for outreach and stakeholders' engagement, releasing reports, creating media tools and content to help reach broad network of vendors and stakeholders.
    • Participate in events and meetings with stakeholders to uplift the voices of street vendors and highlight the work of the program
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 1 to 3 years of experience with program management, environmental justice work, or small business support;
    • Fully bilingual in Spanish and English (spoken and written), and comfortable conducting outreach, workshops, counseling in Spanish
    • Excited about working across multiple cultures and is flexible and patient when communicating with people who speak different languages and hold varying levels of digital literacy;
    • Familiar with issues and policies impacting street vendor small businesses;
    • Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice;
    • Demonstrates a problem-solving mentality and ability to show poise and compassion in engaging with street vendors;
    • A proven project manager with ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects with varying goals and timelines;
    • Experienced in organizing data and developing internal and external communications;
    • Relentlessly dedicated to building the power of working class, immigrant communities of color to incite transformative social and economic justice;
