Position

Hartman’s Teen Initiatives recruit, support, and mentor young Jewish learners (aged 15-18) to develop and inspire ongoing, thoughtful Jewish engagement and courageous Jewish leaders. Hartman’s Teen Initiatives also help high school students cultivate Jewish identities that take seriously their relationships with Jewish Peoplehood, Israel, and broader humanity while developing the tools to build an informed, meaningful, and bright Jewish future.

Hartman’s Teen Initiatives, including its signature program, the Hartman Teen Fellowship, provide opportunities for motivated, engaged, and curious Jewish teens from across North America to gather, both online and in person, as a community of learners during the academic year. Teens unpack questions that matter most to the Jewish people with guidance from the faculty of the Shalom Hartman Institute and with support from local Jewish communities. Teens learn to approach Jewish texts with nuance, engage questions with complexity, and apply Jewish wisdom to their lives with intention.

We are looking for a community-minded, detail-oriented, relationship-forward and motivated Manager or Assistant Director to join our team who will help run all aspects of the Hartman Teen Fellowship, including program design, recruitment and engagement, and mentorship of high school and college students.

The Manager or Assistant Director of Teen Community and Engagement will partner on the design of teen-facing programs, while taking the lead on several programmatic elements of the Hartman Teen Fellowship. The Manager/Assistant Director will drive recruitment efforts for Hartman’s Teen Initiatives, foster meaningful mentoring relationships with approximately 300 teens, and manage the student experience within Hartman teen programs. They will support teen post-high school transition, and support recruitment for SHI’s gap-year program (Hevruta) and campus engagement. The Manager/Assistant Director will also work in partnership with the Wellspring team to support programs for other populations served by the Wellspring team.

Reporting to the Director of Teen and Curricular Initiatives, this position is based in NY.

You have:

• Proven success in program planning, development, implementation and evaluation
• Exceptional experience engaging young people, managing relationships, and building cohorts and communities.
• Experience working with Jewish teens from Jewish communities across the denominational and political spectrum.
• Comfort engaging with Jewish youth-facing organizations across the educational landscape.
• A strong ability to remain organized and detail-oriented while managing multiple complex tasks including documenting and managing logistics and data associated with programs, immersive experiences, travel, communication, and interactions.
• Flexibility to work weekends and evenings.
• The ideal candidate for this position will also have an understanding of and commitment to the Shalom Hartman Institute’s mission, excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with excellence and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with the Director of Teen and Curricular Initiatives in the planning and execution of the Hartman Teen Fellowship, especially the Teen Shabbatonim including all elements of operations, staffing, and participant safety and support.
• Coordinate and document recruitment efforts for Hartman’s Teen Initiatives, by arranging meetings, visits, presentations, and maintaining relationship database.
• Manage the student experience within teen programs, including planning community-focused program elements, mentorship opportunities, and supporting student leadership. Important to be able to develop individual relationships and
• Facilitate community activities and discussions with groups of teens in the Fellowship and in stand-alone program
• Manage students’ transition post-high school, including recruitment for Hevruta gap-year program and campus engagement.
• Work with and serve as a mentor to our college-age madrichim (counselors)
• Track student interest and serve as a concierge to additional learning and mentorship opportunities.
• Support the creation and management of a robust ecosystem of programmatic opportunities for high school students, including regional Hartman programming for students.
• Develop and sustain student connections through our alumni network, and track participant relationship data using CRM best practices.
• Partner with the Director of Teen and Curricular Initiatives, Hevruta Gap Year Program staff, and the staff of Wellspring to connect students to additional, relevant content and learning opportunities.
• Contribute to and support the efforts of the Wellspring team as a whole, including staffing programs outside of Teen Initiatives
• Anticipated travel 4-6 times a year, including two in-person shabbatonim/weekend teen programs, staffing the Wellspring Summit in Jerusalem, and occasional visits to North American Jewish communities. Program year (September-May) also includes some Sunday and evening programs responsibilities.

Qualifications:

• 7
• 10 years of experience engaging and working with teens/young adults in a formal or informal setting
• Passion for and experience with engaging Jewish teens/young adults and able to use those skills in a virtual environment
• Exceptional at building relationships with diverse constituencies
• Deeply curious about the individual student experience and ready to build relationships with over 300 high school students
• Passion for SHI NA’s mission and the mission of our Wellspring initiatives
• Good sense of humor, reliable, and a quick learner
• Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment and under tight deadlines
• Excellent written and communication skills
• BA/BS or equivalent, MA preferred
• Position is based in our New York City office

Salary range and benefits:$80,000 - $110,000, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package.
