    About the Position

    Washington School for Girls (WSG) is seeking a dedicated Senior Philanthropy Officer to join our development team. This full-time, 12-month position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on our mission through strategic fundraising initiatives.

    What You'll Do

    As our Senior Philanthropy Officer, you will identify, cultivate, and solicit high-net-worth donors to ensure a strong base of sustained financial support for our school. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you will:

    Portfolio Management

    • Oversee a $1M+ portfolio consisting of current donors (75%), lapsed donors (15%), and prospective donors (10%) with potential for 5, 6, and 7-figure gifts
    • Develop and execute personalized cultivation strategies for each donor segment
    • Meet ambitious fundraising goals through face-to-face meetings, events, and targeted communications

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct direct, face-to-face solicitations with major donors and prospects
    • Design and implement moves management strategies for high-net-worth donors
    • Identify and research potential major gift prospects
    • Travel throughout DC, MD, and VA for regular donor meetings
    • Create high-quality solicitation materials, proposals, and investment decks
    • Manage communication between donors and school leadership
    • Collaborate with leadership on donor strategy and stewardship
    • Track and analyze portfolio metrics using Raiser's Edge
    • Provide timely reporting to ensure accurate fundraising pipeline and projections

    Qualifications

    Required Experience & Skills

    • 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience
    • Proven track record in annual fund and major gift fundraising
    • Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
    • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
    • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for donor visits
    • Strong planning, data analysis, and project organization abilities
    • Exceptional writing skills with strong grammar
    • Self-starter who collaborates well with teams
    • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through
    • Decision-making skills with ability to evaluate opportunities

    Education

    • Bachelor's Degree required
