    ABOUT COURSEKATA

CourseKata is a community of educators, students, researchers, designers, and developers who are inspired by the opportunity to improve teaching and learning in K12 and higher education classrooms. We develop interactive, online textbooks centered on better, more modern ways to approach student learning.

CourseKata has developed our first online product, a Statistics and Data Science curriculum that includes an online textbook, an extensive library of online materials, top-notch professional development, and a Jupyter Notebook platform where teachers can easily create their own materials for their students. This textbook has been used in college classrooms since 2018 and in high schools since 2020. We are currently in the process of adapting our Statistics and Data Science curriculum with a focus on creating versions for classrooms where students balance in-class and out-of-class learning, classrooms where student learning primarily happens in-class, and educational settings where students are working completely independently without instructor-led components.

We believe that our Statistics and Data Science curriculum is the best option available for college professors and high school teachers because it takes this complex domain and teaches it in a way that students from a wide range of confidence in their math skills can find success. We are eager to hire a Community Manager to support our work to successfully get the curriculum into more classrooms with more students in the coming years.

    THE ROLE

We are looking for a fully remote Community Manager to join the CourseKata team. Reporting to the Director of Operations, Karen Givvin, the Community Manager will be responsible for supporting sales of the Statistics and Data Science curriculum and supporting user success as they adopt and implement the curriculum, primarily through the CourseKata High School Fellowship program which offers first year users training and access to the materials for one year free of charge. The Community Manager will play an integral role in supporting the teachers in the 25/26 school year as well as recruiting and supporting the teachers in the 26/27 school year.

The Community Manager will also support sales to college professors considering CourseKata for their classrooms. While our founding team of college professors will be highly involved in this work, the Community Manager will be asked to add capacity to sales efforts (completing demos, getting to know professors who are considering CourseKata, etc.) and to build relationships with the professors who are already using CourseKata.

The ideal Community Manager has experience teaching data science, statistics, and/or AP statistics in high school. The ideal community manager nerds out about the pedagogy of teaching high school math, loves building relationships with all kinds of people, is highly organized, and approaches their work with diligence and a sense of responsibility.

Primary responsibilities across all work include:

    • Support sales to high school teachers (driving fellowship applications for the 26/27 school year):
      • Attend conferences where teachers, administrators, and math curriculum leads/instructional coaches are likely to be
      • Lead campaigns to reach and pitch CourseKata to key stakeholders in districts and charter networks (e.g. Chief Academic Officers, math curriculum chairs, math instructional coaches, principals, assistant principals, etc.)
      • Presenting information sessions to interested teachers on a regular basis
    • Support sales to college instructors:
      • Join and eventually lead demo calls with college professors
      • Build relationships and maintain continued contact with college professors considering CourseKata
    • Support adoption and success efforts for high school teachers:
      • Participate in training and ongoing support for high school teachers in the 25/26 school year
      • Work with colleagues to create and implement vision for training and ongoing support for high school teachers in the 26/27 school year (including opportunity to design and lead trainings)
      • Support teachers as they transition from the fellowship to paid users (setting expectations early with teachers around future charges and supporting teachers to navigate their schools/districts to find funds)
    • Support adoption and success efforts for college classrooms:
      • Build and maintain relationships with college professors to ensure smooth adoption, connect them to resources, and offer support as needed
      • Engage professors to understand if and when they might continue to use CourseKata
      • Build networks with college professors to reach their colleagues who teaches classes that are a good fit for CourseKata
    • Teach one section of CourseKata to high school students in 25/26 school year (if you have no prior experience with the curriculum)

    Skills and Experiences:

    • Required experience / skills:
      • Experience teaching data science, statistics or AP statistics at the high school level
      • A track record of pursuing and incorporating innovative teaching methods into your classroom
      • Strong ability to build relationships with a wide range of teachers, administrators, and district staff
      • Exemplary personal organizational skills including tracking tasks and managing calendars
      • Ability to manage a lot of details without missing deadlines or dropping balls

    MORE DETAILS ABOUT COURSEKATA

CourseKata is a community of educators, students, researchers, designers, and developers who are inspired by the opportunity to improve teaching and learning in K12 and higher education classrooms. We develop interactive, online textbooks centered on better, more modern ways to approach student learning:

    • Connections + Coherence → Knowledge Transfer: We believe students learn best when they build connections as they learn, making their knowledge more coherent. Coherence results in flexible problem solving that can be applied to new situations and prepare students for more advanced learning
    • A Continuous Improvement Movement: As students use our textbooks, we study the implementation and learning and apply improvement methodologies to continuously improve our materials and their use. Improvements are no longer isolated to single classrooms, but instead are shared across all users of the materials
    • Active Learning Environments: We create student-centered, engaged, and active learning environments with a focus on creating platforms and tools that teachers can easily adapt with lessons that are relevant to the unique students in their classrooms
    • A Community of Educators Who Think Differently: We are more than a textbook or a curriculum. We are a community of teachers/instructors who are inspired by the opportunity to improve teaching and learning in their classrooms. These teachers/instructors participate in professional development, have access to each other through online forums, and are actively creating and sharing adapted materials with one another
    • Affordability: As a non-profit organization, we are committed to providing our textbooks and curricula to educational settings with a range of budgets by pricing our materials at an accessible pricepoint

We have also begun piloting micro textbooks, partnering with instructors/teachers to create niche textbooks on our learning platform. In the coming years we aim to build a suite of online, interactive textbooks for high school and college settings that help students learn complex topics while igniting their curiosity in the world around them.

We are actively adapting our Statistics and Data Science curriculum to better serve diverse learning environments: hybrid classrooms where students balance in-class and out-of-class learning, in-class-focused settings, and fully independent learning scenarios without instructor-led components. Additionally, we have started piloting guest authored textbooks in collaboration with instructors and teachers, creating specialized resources on our learning platform. Over the next few years, our goal is to develop a comprehensive suite of online, interactive textbooks for high school and college students—resources designed not only to help learners master complex concepts but also to spark their curiosity about the world around them.
