    Overview:

    We Are Better Together Warren Daniel Hairston Project, Inc. (WAB2G) is a non-profit organization. founded by Ruth Rollins in 2017, after the murder of her son Danny Hairston and the incarceration of her second son. WAB2G engages and empowers those on both sides of gun violence in the peacemaking process and brings together the community families on both sides of homicide and incarceration to foster healing and unity in the community.

    Position Summary:

    WAB2G seeks a Rapid Rehousing and Transitional Housing (RRH/TH) Case Manager who is highly motivated, flexible, empathetic, culturally competent, cooperative, trauma informed and effective in communicating with diverse populations. The RRH/TH Case Manager must understand the challenges connected to homelessness and domestic violence to demonstrate a genuine commitment to supporting low-income individuals and families, specifically those currently experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness and domestic violence. Case Managers will work overnight and on Saturdays, as required.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Case Management

    • Assess program participants at program entry to develop strengths-based, goal-driven action plans.
    • Conducting comprehensive intakes and collaboratively developing individualized case management plans for program participants.
    • Collaborate with participants to develop individualized case management plans outlining specific goals and action steps.
    • Identify and connect participants with counseling, legal, housing, and educational services, while maintaining a comprehensive resource database.
    • Advocating for clients by navigating the criminal justice system and addressing legal and social issues.
    • Provide emotional support and counseling to participants, helping them cope with trauma and build resilience.
    • Facilitate support groups and workshops to address specific needs and promote healing.
    • Advocate on behalf of program participants to ensure they receive the necessary support and services.
    • Provide crisis intervention services when needed, including responding to emergencies and connecting participants with appropriate services.
    • Delegate report generation on team activities to ensure efficient documentation.
    • Data entry, reporting, and participation in meetings.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential case records, including progress notes, assessments, and service plans.

    Housing Assistance 

    • Assess housing barriers and work with participants to overcome barriers to tenancy.
    • Locate and secure appropriate housing, including immediate housing solutions.
    • Assist with landlord negotiations, housing applications, and leases.
    • Match program participants to appropriate housing options.
    • Conduct visits to participants' homes to ensure compliance with lease and program agreements.
    • Identify and provide outreach to landlords and community organizations.
    • Serve as a landlord liaison to help mitigate issues with tenants.

    Support Services and Referrals 

    • Develop a referral network of services and supports for housing retention.
    • Provide referrals, personal/criminal advocacy & accompaniment support.
    • Develop safety plans and assist with restraining order needs.
    • Educate survivors about domestic violence dynamics and available resources.
    • Monitor participants' housing stability during program participation.
    • Provide education on financial literacy, professional development, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
    • Assist clients in meeting the family reunification requirements as defined by the Department of Children and Families.

    Crisis Response and Specialized Support 

    • Share responsibility for on-call Hot Line counseling and response network management.
    • Be available for on-call and emergency situations.
    • Develop engaging methods of delivery for Domestic Violence survivors.
    • Attend safe house staff meetings and weekly house meetings for shelter residents.
    • Accompany survivors to criminal or civil legal court proceeding.

    Client Skill Development and Self-Sufficiency

    • Prepare program participants for eventual self-sufficiency.
    • Build connections with potential employers and training programs.
    • Prepare participants for job interviews and assist with resume building.
    • Teach budgeting and financial literacy skills.
    • Ensure participants possess basic life and home care skills.
    • Work with tenants and landlords to solve issues and prevent eviction.

    Essential Skills:

    • Case management, advocacy, outreach.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work with residents impacted by violence in a nonjudgmental, trauma-informed way.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.), Google (e-mail, drive, etc.), and zoom.
    • Public speaking and presenting skills are a plus.
    • Must have a Valid Driver’s License

    Experience & Education:

    • 2+ years of experience in the field OR associate or bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, public health, public policy, or a related field.

    Additional Information:

    • Pending public health guidance, services may be offered remotely or in-person, meeting all COVID-19 safety guidelines.
    • This is a grant funded position.
