    Position Overview

    The Membership Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring a high level of responsiveness and engagement with NCA members. This position is responsible for managing member inquiries, enhancing member satisfaction, serving as the main point of contact in the registration area at the Annual Convention, and providing exceptional customer service through email and other communication channels. The Membership Associate will work closely with the staff to support retention and recruitment efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    Member Communication & Support

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries via email, phone, and social media platforms.
    • Respond promptly and professionally to member questions, concerns, and requests.
    • Maintain a high standard of customer service and ensure member satisfaction.

    Email Management & Responsiveness

    • Monitor and manage the membership email inbox, ensuring timely responses.
    • Develop and implement efficient processes to improve response time and accuracy.
    • Track common inquiries and collaborate with the team to enhance FAQs and support resources.

    Member Engagement & Retention

    • Assist members with renewals, account updates, and troubleshooting issues.
    • Assist members with event registrations.
    • Provide personalized follow-ups to encourage continued membership engagement.
    • Work closely with the membership team to develop outreach strategies for retaining existing members.

    Database & Record Management

    • Act as the staff's primary point of contact for NCA’s Association Management System (AMS).
    • Update and maintain accurate member records in the Association's database.
    • Ensure data integrity and assist with membership reporting as needed.

    Collaboration & Process Improvement

    • Work with the Director of Communications and Marketing to streamline member communications and processes.
    • Identify opportunities for improving the overall membership experience.
    • Participate in membership meetings and contribute to strategy discussions.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in membership management, customer service, or a related role.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service.
    • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
    • Knowledge of the field of Communication and familiarity with academic organizations is desirable.
    • Experience working in a nonprofit or membership-based organization is a plus.
    • Passion for fostering engagement and supporting a scholarly community.

    The National Communication Association operates in a hybrid work mode: two days in the office and three days at telework. Staff are expected to be in the office on Tuesdays for strategic planning and other ongoing discussions with the Executive Director. The work mode is regularly reviewed to meet the association's evolving needs. Such review may necessitate changing the position’s mode of work designation.
