The YWCA of the City of New York (YW-NYC) is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We are a multiracial women’s social justice organization dedicated to addressing issues that emerge at the intersection of race, class, and gender. Founded in 1858, the YW-NYC is the first YW in the United States and part of an international movement of YWs worldwide. We currently serve close to 3,000 New York City school youth through leadership and advocacy training for young women through our high school Girls Initiatives programs and through our co-ed afterschool programs for elementary and middle school public school students in culturally diverse communities in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The Director of Girls Initiatives is primarily responsible for the design, strategic implementation and management of YW-NYC’s innovative social justice and leadership programs for self-identified girls and gender nonconforming youth between the ages of 14-18. This position is responsible for program development design, creating curriculum, identifying and managing collaborations, partnerships, and resources to enhance program offerings and delivery, managing the Girls Initiatives team, and the overall operations at the YW-NYC Girls Initiatives office, located on 500 West 56th St, NY, NY. This role will also provide strategic direction and training to the broader YW-NYC afterschool staff, to integrate the agency’s mission of racial justice and women’s empowerment into the programs.
The Director of Girls Initiatives reports directly to the Senior Director of Programs. Key attributes of a successful director are the ability to manage complex and detailed tasks simultaneously and drive results; effectively integrate program philosophy and manage policies consistent with the organization’s mission and goals; utilize analytical skills and creativity to develop and implement program initiatives; and the ability to work collaboratively and independently as necessary with key stakeholders and partnering organizations.
