    Position: HR Specialist

    Reports To: Executive Director

    About Isuroon:

    Founded in 2010, Isuroon is a women-led organization dedicated to empowering Somali women in Minnesota. We offer programs focused on health, financial literacy, civic engagement, and leadership development. Through strong partnerships, we provide culturally competent training and research to improve outcomes and reduce disparities for Somali women. Our mission is to support Somali women & their families in overcoming barriers, navigating healthcare systems, and advocating for their own well-being.

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a kind, responsible, detail-oriented HR Specialist who is deeply committed to racial justice. This position plays a key role in supporting Isuroon’s human resources functions, helping us to recruit, retain, and support a diverse and inclusive workforce. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, a passion for social justice, and the ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism. This is an in-person position based at our office location.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Recruitment & Staffing:
    • Manage the recruitment process: developing job descriptions, posting jobs, reviewing applications, coordinating interviews, and facilitating & overseeing the hiring process.
    • Facilitate & manage the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring people feel welcomed, supported & and have their basic working needs ready on the first day of work. Ensure new employees are given an onboarding plan – support in developing a smoother onboarding experience.
    • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all hiring practices, with a focus on candidates who align with Isuroon’s mission.
    • Manage the full termination process: process final check, collection of keys and all company property, conduct exit interview
    • Payroll Systems:
    • Review employee electronic payroll
    • Ensure all accrued benefits are correctly accruing and added for all qualifying employees.
    • Work with ADP to polish and update onboarding, terminations and other processes and procedures.
    • Administer benefits programs, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans.
    • Guide employees through the benefits process and ensure they understand and can access all available resources.
    • Employee Relations:
    • Be a friendly and approachable point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, benefits, and any workplace concerns.
    • Foster an inclusive and supportive work environment, promoting open & clear communication and helping to resolve conflicts as needed.
    • Ensure that all employees are treated with dignity and respect, supporting Isuroon’s racial justice goals.
    • Training & Development:
    • Assist with the design and coordination of training programs that promote professional development, including leadership and skills-building opportunities for employees.
    • Ensure training materials and programs are culturally relevant and accessible for all staff members.
    • Compliance & Recordkeeping:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements.
    • Manage and maintain accurate and confidential employee records in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
    • HR Reporting & Analytics:
    • Support the collection and analysis of HR data, such as employee retention and diversity metrics.
    • Provide recommendations for improvements based on HR data to promote a more equitable workplace.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Work, or a related field a plus
    • A requested minimum of 5+ years of experience in an HR role, ideally in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
    • A strong commitment to racial justice and an understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on kindness and empathy.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and HR software.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
    • Must be able to work in-person at our office location.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
    • Experience working with Somali or immigrant communities.
    • Familiarity with HRIS systems or other HR management tools.
    • Speaking English, please be fluent in reading, writing, conversation, and comprehension. Other languages beyond English is an asset!
