    Urban Adamah is an educational farm and community center in Berkeley, California that integrates the practices of Jewish tradition, mindfulness, sustainable agriculture, and social justice to build loving, just, and sustainable communities. We provide training programs, educational workshops, and community celebrations for more than 10,000 visitors annually.

    About The Role

    The Young Adult Programs Manager will manage and oversee Young Adult programs, including but not limited to the Fellowship, Alternative Spring Break, Alumni Relations and Young Adult Retreats throughout the year. The Young Adult Programs Manager is supervised by the Educational Programs Director.

    The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about working with young adults, enjoys group facilitation and relationship building, brings knowledge and experience to creating rich Jewish and educational experiences, and is excited to think about how to connect young adults to the farm, to earth-based Jewish tradition, and to each other.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    FELLOWSHIP

    The Urban Adamah Fellowship is a residential immersion program for young adults that integrates Jewish living and learning with sustainable agriculture and community building. The Young Adult Programs Manager has the overall responsibility for ensuring the vibrancy and thriving of the Fellowship and fellows, including but not limited to:

    Curriculum, Teaching & Scheduling:

    • Learn the existing Fellowship model and curriculum and be prepared to execute on it for the Fall 2025 Fellowship at the direction of the Educational Programs Director. Following the Fall 2025 Fellowship, propose to the Educational Programs Director future curricular development and innovation
    • Teach and facilitate 25% – 50% of the Fellowship curriculum
    • Manage the schedule for the remainder of the classes to be taught by a rotating group of guest faculty, including Urban Adamah staff and community partner educators
    • Coordinate schedule for participants to cover farm work and chores at the farm manager’s direction
    • Forge new partnerships with local educators and steward existing and emerging partnerships at the direction of the Educational Programs Director
    • Serve as primary staff liaison for programmatic and logistical issues that arise for the Fellows throughout the Fellowship season

    Fellowship Communications:

    • Work with our Marketing Manager to manage all Fellowship communications and data in our CRM tool in advance of arrival and throughout the fellowship
    • Monitor and manage application and enrollment status

    Fellowship Recruitment:

    • Develop and manage implementation of a comprehensive recruitment process to ensure full Fellowship classes each season, including general marketing, personal outreach in concert with the Marketing Manager
    • Manage the application review process, interview, and select participants with the Educational Programs Director
    • Provide website copy to the Marketing Manager to ensure the Fellowship section of the website is up-to-date and accurate

    Evaluation:

    • Ensure distribution, collection, and review of Fellows’ program evaluations before, during, and after the Fellowship, and provide appropriate follow-up
    • Provide feedback from evaluation data with staff, teachers and guest lecturers at the direction of the Educational Programs Director

    Mentorship:

    • Work with our Marketing Manager to maintain a spreadsheet of alumni activities and positions, updated twice annually
    • In partnership with the Educational Programs Director, develop and execute an alumni engagement strategy

    ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK

    Through our Spring Break Programs, we partner with universities, Hillels nationwide, and Adamah on Campus, to offer the best of the The Urban Adamah Fellowship, concentrated into a week. We host 2-3 weeks of Alternative Spring Break Programs annually. Responsibilities include:

    • Forge and maintain year-round relationships with University, Hillel and Adamah on Campus staff for purposes of collaboration and recruitment
    • Using developed curriculum, design Alternative Spring Break schedule, manage logistics, and coordinate with educator consultants
    • Teach 25 – 50% of sessions / classes

    SUMMER SPECIALISTS PROGRAM

    Camp Urban Adamah hosts a small group of young adults as specialists through our Summer Specialists Program. Specialists live and work on the farm and develop and teach curriculum to our campers. 50% of this program is held by the Young Adult Programs Manager, with 50% held by other staff managing community and youth programs. The Young Adult Manager’s Responsibilities include:

    • Coordinate safety trainings with the facilities and operations department
    • Manage and facilitate Jewish programming for summer specialists, including participant-led Avodat Lev/Mindfulness routine, Shabbat, and Havdalah practice
    • Teach and facilitate weekly sessions on earth-based or other interpretive expressions of Jewish life and values, food systems / social action, and mindfulness, at the direction of the Educational Programs Director

    FELLOWSHIP ALUMNI REUNION

    The Fellowship Alumni Reunion is a weekend of connecting with Alumni old and new, celebrating Shabbat, singing, relaxing, eating farm-fresh food, and more! This is an opportunity for Alumni to re-live the magic of the Fellowship, and to leave feeling grounded and inspired. Responsibilities include:

    • Design retreat schedule and content at the Direction of the Retreats and Rentals Director and Community and Ritual Director
    • Teach and facilitate 50% of sessions / classes
    • Manage the schedule for the remainder of the classes to be taught by a rotating group of guest faculty, including Urban Adamah staff and community partner educators

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Young Adult Programs Manager plays an important role ideating, proposing, and implementing new and innovative programming reflecting Urban Adamah’s mission, vision, and values. We are committed to continued programmatic growth and innovation, and the Young Adult Programs Manager has a central role to play in this work.

    The Young Adult Programs Manager will also be asked to support the organization in other ways as needed, including representing Urban Adamah in the greater community in a variety of ways.

    You are passionate about Urban Adamah’s mission and have the background and experience to design, implement and manage educational and community building opportunities for young adults. You are detail-oriented, and are thorough and diligent in your administrative work. You are excited about young adult engagement and empowerment, and bring a high level of creativity, responsibility, and a collaborative spirit to program design and implementation.
