    Athletic Trainer / Health Coordinator

    Full-time Position

    The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a full-time Athletic Trainer / School Health Coordinator for the 2025-26 school year. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of College Prep students, with a particular emphasis on student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer / School Health Coordinator is responsible for implementing preventive health measures, treating athletic injuries, and serving as a resource for the broader school community.

    This role requires independent judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff. The Athletic Trainer / School Health Coordinator is a 12-month exempt student-facing staff position that reports directly to the Athletic Director.

    Classification: Exempt

    Compensation: Competitive salary ($75,000 - $95,000), commensurate with experience.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Athletic Training & Student Health

    • Provide preventive and emergency medical care for all students, with a focus on interscholastic athletes.
    • Assess, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries, collaborating with coaches, athletes, and families to determine return-to-play status.
    • Attend competitions and practices as needed, prioritizing high-risk sports, home events, and varsity teams while ensuring equitable support for boys' and girls' athletics.
    • Assist visiting teams and coaches at College Prep home contests and serve as a first responder in case of emergencies.
    • Maintain and manage the Athletic Training Room, including scheduling procedures and ensuring appropriate medical supplies are available.
    • Oversee the school's Return-to-Play concussion protocol and collaborate with the Dean of Academics on the Return-to-Learn process.
    • Manage on-campus and portable AEDs, as well as pre-participation physical and immunization records through FinalForms.
    • Keep accurate records of student treatments and communicate with parents and teams via FinalForms.
    • Assist the Athletic Director with additional tasks, including game-day support and supervising events as needed.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive injury prevention and emergency response plan for each sport.
    • Represent the athletic training program at school events, including Admissions Open Houses.

    Health Coordination & Administrative Responsibilities

    • Serve on the school's Safety Committee, tracking health conditions and injuries within the community.
    • Review and update the school's Emergency Action Plans in coordination with local emergency medical professionals.
    • Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety protocols. Enforce protocols for contagious diseases, risk mitigation, and blood-borne pathogens.
    • Manage the school's medication policies and provide first aid to students and faculty/staff.
    • Maintain and update student health records and accident reports using FinalForms and other school databases.
    • Provide health education, wellness programs, and immunization guidance in collaboration with faculty.

    Campus & Student Life Involvement

    • Attend and support student life activities such as rafting and skiing grade-level retreats.
    • Participate in Common Classroom programming and school assemblies.
    • Contribute to the broader school community through committee participation and school-wide events.

    Employment Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Athletic Training or a related field.
    • Current Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Instructor certification preferred).
