    Director of Human Resources (Managing Director)

    The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that fights for equity for all women and families. We’re passionate about making change on big issues such as equal pay for all women, paid leave for working families and access to affordable health care that provides abortion and reproductive care. We advocate on the Hill and for federal, state and local policy.

    We are seeking a Director of Human Resources to provide critical and strategic oversight of human resource matters and foster a diverse and inclusive workforce. In this role, they oversee the administration, coordination, and evaluation of human resources functions over the full employee lifecycle which includes benefits programs, compensation, compliance and reporting, performance management, training and development, employee and labor relations, recruitment, and retention.

    The Director of Human Resources position is a full-time position based in Washington, DC and reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The National Partnership maintains a hybrid work environment where staff are required to be in the office a minimum of 4 days per month, with additional in-office and in-person days determined by your role and job responsibilities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the HR team and manage day-to-day HR activities, including providing strong HR support and guidance to staff across the National Partnership with a special focus on equity and staff wellness.
    • Manage/participate in complaint resolution and oversight of the internal investigations processes.
    • Design, coordinate and continuously evaluate HR systems to ensure best practices and alignment with organizational values and strategic priorities.
    • Oversee HR to ensure effective, efficient, and legally compliant processes are followed.
    • Coordinate all benefit plans (health, life, FSA, etc.) and salary programs including appropriate record keeping, analysis, market competitiveness, internal equity, and compliance.
    • Manage performance management process and systems.
    • Oversee Union-Management relations, including grievance process.
    • Manage compliance with EEO requirements, including the reasonable accommodation process.
    • Manage recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, retention, training and development, employee and labor relations.
    • Manage accountability processes, including disciplinary/corrective actions.
    • Ensure staff are aware of HR policies, procedures and changes as they occur and that all HR manuals, handbooks and guides/procedures are current and maintained.

    Qualifications:

    The candidate must possess:

    • Experience in all aspects of HR legal compliance in a 50+ employee organization
    • Experience and expertise in HR best practices
    • Experience working with a unionized workforce
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail
    • Experience drafting policies and/or providing written guidance regarding HR-related topics
    • Experience in workforce planning and the ability to manage dialogue around HR-related decision-making while anticipating the implications and consequences of the proposed solutions;
    • Experience providing solid HR support to staff and supervisors including coaching, performance management, grievances, etc.

    The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is NOT included in the NP United bargaining unit.

    Salary and Benefits

    The salary range for this role is $148,317-$182,081 with the exact salary determined by years of relevant experience, in alignment with NPWF’s compensation setting criteria.
