    Overview

    We are seeking a Controller for our cultural arts non-profit client located in Richmond, VA. This hands-on manager plans and directs an accounting team of 2 - 3 staff to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll approval. In addition, this role oversees training programs and identifies training needs and determines (with Senior Management) appropriate accounting staffing levels and supervises recruitment. The organization budget is ~$6M with about 40 full-time employees.

    Summary of Job Responsibilities and Requirements

    • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk
    • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards
    • Co-produces (with Senior Management) the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management
    • Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on cash management and analysis of potential cost savings
    • Presents quarterly financial reporting to the Board of Directors, and monthly summaries to the Finance Committee
    • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit
    • Files quarterly and annual government reports as required, as well as monthly tax reporting.
    • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
    • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

    Key Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area required
    • Minimum five years or more of related experience required
    • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred
    • Proficient in non-profit accounting and tax preparation software (e.g., QuickBooks)
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Solid management and supervisory skills
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software (e.g., Google Suite)
    • Experience with live entertainment venues desirable
    • Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. Attendance at occasional evening meetings (i.e., board meetings) is required; Hybrid possible, though a minimum of 3 days/week on site is required
    • Successfully complete pre-employment background screening.
