    About American Economic Liberties Project

The American Economic Liberties Project is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to fighting monopoly power. We combine policy and regulatory expertise with strategic communications, coalition-building, and advocacy campaigns to help ensure policymakers protect workers, small businesses, communities, and democracy from monopolistic corporations to advance economic liberty for all.

    Position Summary

Economic Liberties seeks a Communications Intern to support its communications team. Ideal candidates will have exceptional interpersonal skills, an interest in politics and an awareness of the day-to-day political developments in U.S. competition policy.

    Primary responsibilities will include:

    • Gathering media clips and performing regular media monitoring of issues related to corporate power.
    • Updating press lists, identifying opportunities to connect members of the media with AELP staff and fellows, and proactively crafting outreach materials, including pitches and press releases.
    • Drafting website copy for and updating Economic Liberties’ websites.
    • Assisting with a variety of communications- and team-related assignments and tasks as necessary.

    Qualifications

    • A current undergraduate student (at least sophomore standing) or recent graduate with a background in public policy, journalism, communications, or other subjects with a demonstrable interest in Economic Liberties focus areas.
    • Strong writing skills and the ability to synthesize complex topics into short pieces and concise talking points for diverse audiences.
    • Ability to keep track of multiple deadlines and communicate updates and potential conflicts with team members.
    • Sense of curiosity about how markets work and ways public policy could help decentralize economic power.

    Compensation and Benefits

The Communications Intern is a part-time temporary position with an hourly rate between $15-$20 depending on experience. As a temporary employee, the Communications Intern will be eligible for statutory benefits only.

We expect the internship to run for a minimum of four months beginning in Spring 2025, with an option to extend depending on organizational needs. Though American Economic Liberties Project is based in Washington, DC, strong remote candidates will be considered. Authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available.
