    Are you a passionate educator, eager to get more people on bikes?

    The Washington Area Bicyclist Association is looking for a coordinator to join our bicycle education program. We are looking for someone with experience in physical education, program management, or outdoor recreation education to coordinate WABA’s adult, youth and family class programs.

    TEAM

    WABA’s Education program facilitates more than 100 classes, rides, and outreach events per year, with the goal of bringing high quality, accessible, and effective bicycle education to adults, youth and families across the region. This position will report to WABA’s Education Director.

    POSITION LOCATION

    This candidate must be located within the DC region

    This role is designated as “hybrid flex”. Roles with this designation primarily work remotely but require routine in-person work. Specific in person days/events are determined by the employee and their manager based on their annual work plan and program needs.

    COMPENSATION

    This is a full time salaried exempt position with a salary range of $51,000.00 - $56,000.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Oversee WABA’s Cohort of League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) (25%): The Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating WABA’s cohort of League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) - independent contractors who are assigned to teach WABA’s classes, in school programs, and other events as needed. The Coordinator will be responsible for class scheduling, planning and leading instructor orientation and trainings, and communicating course information.

    Schedule, Plan and Implement WABA’s Education Programming across the region (50%): In collaboration with the Education Director, the Education Coordinator will schedule, plan and implement adult, youth and family bicycle classes in the DMV. Responsibilities include identifying class locations, permitting, coordinating with partner organizations, and teaching as needed.

    Promote and Market WABA’s class offerings (10%): In collaboration with the Communications and Development Team, the Education Coordinator will create promotional materials for social media and email campaigns.

    Manage participant registration and provide customer service (10%): The Education Coordinator will build and maintain WABA’s event registration platform, Eventbrite, and provide customer service assistance via email and over the phone.

    Support WABA’s in school program Bike Week and summer Bike Camp (5%): In collaboration with the Youth Programs Coordinator, the Education Coordinator will provide teaching and logistical support for in school and summer youth programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

    • Two or more years of experience of in-school or after school physical education, summer camp facilitation, outdoor recreation education, or program management work.
    • Administrative and customer service skills
    • The ability to pass DC Public Schools’ volunteering requirements, including a tuberculosis test and criminal background check.
    • The ability to ride a bike in mixed city traffic and off-street trails.
    • A valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and the ability to drive a large van in city traffic.
    • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds for van loading and load out.
    • Current certifications, or the willingness and ability to obtain the certifications within the first two months of employment, for:
    • The ability to organize time wisely and balance many projects in a relaxed, fun environment.
    • A flexible schedule and willingness to work occasional hours outside of traditional business hours (i.e. mornings before 9 AM, evenings after 5 PM, and weekends) in line with scheduled programming
    • Enthusiastic, sincere interpersonal and communications skills, both informal and written, including active listening and learning.
    • A proven track record for being dependable, timely, communicative, and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
    • A commitment to respect, include, and be kind to all.
    • Creative problem-solving skills and capacity to innovate.
    • An understanding of how race, gender, and other factors shape conversations and experiences.

    Useful experience and skills:

    • Outreach program development and event planning experience
    • Experience with event logistics and risk management
    • Experience managing volunteers or independent contractors
    • Program management and grant reporting
    • Financial program management, including monitoring, reporting, tracking expenditures, invoicing, and projections
    • Working fluency in Spanish, ASL and/or Amharic
    • Experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Chat, Drive, Sheets, Docs), Eventbrite and Salesforce.

    SUPPORT

    • An established, successful program with over 10 years of experience delivering adult, youth, and family education across the region.
    • A cohort of over 45 LCIs across the region who are passionate about getting folks on bikes.
    • WABA’s Comms team is here to help you get the right messages to the right people. They assist staff with skill building in things like Salesforce and WordPress.
    • Support in becoming a League Cycling Instructor (LCI), including registration, memberships, and travel costs.
    • Support with the registration costs for the First Aid/CPR certification.
