    What We Do

Teach Plus is a national nonprofit whose mission is to empower excellent, experienced, and diverse teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that advance equity, opportunity, and student access. At the heart of our work is developing teacher leadership and voice in pursuit of student success. We believe that investing in our most talented teachers—developing them into well-informed, persuasive leaders—gives them deep leverage in elevating the most pressing education issues facing students, teachers, and communities while advancing opportunities and outcomes for students. Through our Policy Fellowship and Instructional Leadership programs, we inspire and equip teachers to ignite systems change at multiple levels. Learn more at teachplus.org

    What You’ll Do

As a Teach Plus California team member reporting to the California Executive Director, you will support Teach Plus’s efforts to position the organization and its teacher leaders in key statewide and regional collective efforts bridging state policy and local implementation change. Specifically, you will manage the California Educator Diversity Action Network and support Teach Plus teacher leaders in facilitating the work of the Network. You will also help determine and execute opportunities for Teach Plus CA alumni to catalyze systems change-both through policy change and local implementation-at different levels, engaging with organizations and regional leaders working on issues central to Teach Plus’s mission, like the success of Emergent Bilingual students or fostering a highly qualified, sustainable, diverse educator workforce. You will develop and refine support for Teach Plus alumni to equip and empower them to shape the work of those collective efforts regionally in the Central Valley, Bay Area, and LA County (and statewide, as appropriate).

The California Educator Diversity Action Network (CEDAN), cochaired by Teach Plus California and EdTrust-West, is a diverse network powered by educators, community leaders, advocates, researchers, and innovative policymakers who have joined together to advance policies and practices needed to increase educator diversity in California.

The California Network and Teacher Mobilization Manager will be responsible for the following:

The Network and Teacher Mobilization Manager will be responsible for ensuring that CEDAN operates strategically, efficiently, and effectively to create a collective vision, build a broad base of support, and ultimately lead systems change efforts that ensure a sustainable and diverse educator workforce to better meet the needs of students in California:

    • Serve as the primary representative of the CEDAN when engaging with external audiences.
    • Project manage the Network, including creating and maintaining electronic organizational systems, resources, tools, and templates to support the flow of work, leading core partner meetings, developing meeting agendas, tracking, supporting, and following up with working groups.
    • Support the planning and facilitation of network events and meetings, recruiting and cultivating new network members, drafting communications, supporting the execution of network priorities, and managing the day-to-day operations and tactics of the network to ensure the achievement of its policy goals.
    • Train educator leaders as facilitators of CEDAN and engage systems leadership. Support CEDAN educator leaders in their leadership activities.

    Teacher Leader Engagement and Mobilization

    • Collaborate with the California Executive Director, Program Director, and Policy Manager to implement and improve our comprehensive teacher engagement and mobilization strategy. Think creatively and strategically about how to expand the impact of our alumni teacher leaders.
    • Engage and communicate with alumni to support them in continuing to identify and take action around opportunities for impact, both short and long-term.
    • Serve as a talent agent for teachers by seeking out and/or creating teacher leadership opportunities, including but not limited to nominating fellows and alums for awards and soliciting opportunities for high-profile advisory roles.
    • Cultivate and manage relationships with regional educational partners, district and county leaders, and coalition partners to foster opportunities for engagement and impact for alumni.
    • Provide alumni participants with personalized guidance and coaching as leadership opportunities emerge by providing timely and growth-oriented feedback rooted in Teach Plus’ Leadership Attribute Continuum.

Within the first 6 months you will:

    • Assume full project management of the CEDAN Network and, as appropriate, refine any management systems and supports
    • Partner with CEDAN Co-Chairs to assume training and support of CEDAN Educator Leaders
