Job Description
The Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead our member professional development and engagement efforts. This new position will play a pivotal role in ensuring our members have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive in the ever-evolving public media landscape.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for public media journalists, including workshops, online courses, and webinars.
- Oversee the creation and delivery of ongoing webinars and virtual networking sessions on relevant topics for public media professionals.
- Manage all aspects of conference breakout sessions and speaker logistics, including speaker selection, content development, and session scheduling, in collaboration with the board and other staff. Collaborate with the Membership & Outreach and Training & Education Committees to identify member needs and develop targeted programs.
- Create comprehensive career pathing materials to guide public media journalists in their professional development.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase member participation in PMJA events, programs, and resources.
- Manage and track the effectiveness of all training programs and member engagement initiatives.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in journalism training and professional development.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with members, committee members, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with PMJA staff to secure funding for member engagement and professional development programs, including identifying grant opportunities, crafting proposals, and managing grant relationships.
- Occasional travel as necessary including annual conference and retreat.
Qualifications:
- Experience in developing and delivering professional development programs.
- Experience in public media, journalism or a related field is preferred.
- Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing public media journalists.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and learning management systems (LMS) is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to track and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Passion for public media and a commitment to the professional development of journalists.
