    Position Title: Major Gift Officer

    Location: Remote (USA)

    Salary: $88,000 - $105,000

    Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt

    Reports to: Director of Philanthropy, Individual Giving

    ABOUT US:

    Since 1988, Rainforest Trust has been safeguarding imperiled tropical habitats and saving endangered species by supporting rights-based conservation measures such as affirming and securing rights to Indigenous or Traditional Territories, recognizing Conserved Areas (OECMs), and establishing traditional Protected Areas, including those with co-management of Indigenous or local communities. Working in partnership with local organizations and communities, we have protected more than 51 million acres of vital habitat across Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Rainforest Trust is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that relies upon the generous support of the public to successfully implement our important conservation action.

    HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR MISSION:

    • Renew a substantial portion of a portfolio of major donors annually by effectively managing relationships
    • Upgrade a substantial portion of a portfolio of major donors annually by effectively managing relationships
    • Acquire new major donors by effectively stewarding relationships
    • Help inform the Philanthropy team's data-driven donor strategy by effectively and confidentially documenting donor data, moves and responses

    TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE, WE'RE HOPING YOU'LL HAVE:

    • Proven major donor management. You have an ability to manage a portfolio of donors giving between high five and six-figure gifts, and you bring a proven history of identifying and qualifying prospects, and securing donations from new major donors. With your passion for the mission, you can persuasively speak and write about it, effectively engaging others to secure their support. You have a strong track record of successfully making the ask, resulting in upgraded giving, and you're experienced in making upgrade asks through direct verbal conversations. You are highly skilled in moves management, and you are willing to travel up to 30% of the time to engage with donors and colleagues directly, ensuring strong relationships are built and maintained.
    • Strong cross-functional collaboration.You have a demonstrated history of respectfully working cross-functionally to achieve shared goals, collaborating effectively with colleagues across the organization. You have the ability to manage up, working closely with leadership, including the CEO, to develop and execute donor strategies and engagement plans. Additionally, you can partner with and guide members of the board of directors, helping them engage their networks and upgrade donors to support the mission.
    • A strong data-driven technique. You have a proven history of determining what data is needed to craft an appropriate and effective ask, and you know how to leverage that data to develop strong ask strategies. You work in compliance with data privacy best practices and are skilled at using nonprofit CRMs (such as Salesforce) to track and manage donor interactions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Rainforest Trust is a remote first organization and the incumbent will be expected to work primarily from home with an excellent internet connection, though part-time office space may be available in Washington DC. Occasional national and/or international travel (up to 30%) may be required for organizational meetings and other events.

    ANTICIPATED SALARY

    The salary range for this position is $88,000- $105,000 commensurate with experience. This base compensation range represents the anticipated low and high range of wages for this position. Salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
