Youth Organizer & Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment Coordinator

IPJC is seeking a passionate, motivated, creative, and energetic person to accompany, train, and support our youth internship team and provide technical support to our institutional shareholder advocacy coalition. Through a foundational orientation towards relationship and trust building this person will build power with youth and institutional partners to create systemic change for the common good.

This position is split 50% between the two roles outlined below, and as such each role has a specific supervisor, job description, and responsibilities.

Reports to: Director of Community Organizing & Director of Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment

Youth Organizer Description:

This person will accompany youth leaders to foster and develop their leadership in community organizing practice and social action. This includes all three of IPJC’s current efforts with young people, Youth Action Team Internship, Ignite, and the Northwest Advocacy Summit. For this body of work, the Youth Organizer will report to the Director of Community Organizing.

Responsibilities of the Youth Organizer:

Youth Action Team Internship Program

• Co-Facilitate Weekly Meetings: Attend and co-lead all weekly meetings as well as additional retreats and actions led by the students in partnership with the Director of Community Organizing.
• Planning: Drive and direct the delivery of the program by planning weekly meetings and overall curriculum with support and consultation from the Director of Community Organizing.
• Community Partner Relationship Building: Connect the center and students with community partners, especially for student formation and collaborative action for justice; work closely with school partners to leverage the programming and training IPJC provides to its students in their respective school communities; update students on justice-oriented community events and programming monthly.
• Student Communication & Support: Meet regularly with students to understand their needs, build trust, and support their leadership development and communicate weekly with the student co-hort. Facilitate regular student program evaluations to inform changes and modifications to the program.
• Program Recruitment: Collaborate with school partners to actively recruit interns, provide promotional materials, and conduct regular 1-1's with critical school staff. Oversee the application and interview process to form each new cohort of interns.

Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment Coordinator Description:

This person will work with the Director of the Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment in supporting the shareholder advocacy of the members of the coalition through relationship and coalition building, strategy development, issue expertise, and technical assistance. For this body of work, the NWCRI Coordinator will report to the Director of Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment.

Responsibilities of NWCRI Coordinator:

• Research & Analysis: Study justice issues and the role of corporations in causing/addressing harm utilizing qualitative and quantitative research.
• Partnership Development: Foster strategic partnerships with organizations and communities representing frontline and directly impacted communities to leverage shareholder advocacy platform to stand alongside communities.
• ICCR Representation: Serve on ICCR working groups on priority issues of NWCRI, serve as a member of the Assembly of Members of ICCR, and attend bi-annual meetings in New York.
• Member Technical Support: Participate in filing shareholder resolutions and in dialogues with corporations.

For Both Roles:

• Ongoing Professional Development: Attending a week-long community organizing training in the first quarter of employment as well as learning modules, orientation and training sessions connected through ICCR.
• Center-wide Events: Including but not limited to the annual Spring Benefit, serving in a support role will be required at the discretion of the Executive Director.
• Share & Document: Support the authoring of any necessary reports including the Annual Report and communications to the broader community about the work and impact of NWCRI and YATI.

Qualifications:

• Ability to work within the Catholic faith tradition and interfaith settings. Commitment to learning about faith-based values and mission priorities of NWCRI members and community of youth.
• Express and demonstrate commitment to values and issues which constitute the Intercommunity Peace & Justice Center’s mission.
• Knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching and familiarity with the Catholic Church and interfaith networks.
• Knowledge of political/social systems and social justice applications with the ability to quickly learn about complex policy issues.
• Proven ability to work as a team member, a self-starter, flexible and adaptable.
• Group facilitation.
• Intentional community building.
• Strong analytical skills, vision, and strategic thinking.
• Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum BA in Theology, Sociology, Political Science, Social Work, Public Policy, Education, Human Rights, or Social Justice or equivalent experience in faith-based community organizing.
• Experience working with high school age students.
