Strategy Associate

The American Flood Coalition is a bipartisan, member-driven coalition working to scale innovative solutions to the country’s toughest flood adaptation challenges. AFC comprises more than 450 elected officials, local leaders, municipalities, civic and military groups, and businesses that work together to advance flood solutions at the local, state, and federal levels. As the only national coalition that focuses on flooding and sea level rise across all levels of government, AFC is uniquely positioned to transform how communities around the country adapt to flooding and sea level rise.

Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic, intellectually curious problem-solver to join our growing team. The Strategy Associate will play a key role in supporting AFC’s efforts to build and sustain strategic partnerships, communicate our strategy to internal and external audiences, and contribute to the planning, execution, and monitoring of special initiatives that drive key programs. Responsibilities include developing program content, organizing events, and tracking progress toward objectives. The Strategy Associate will also assist in creating reports, presentations, and other materials to highlight the impact of these initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate will be a highly organized self-starter, skilled at managing multiple priorities in a collaborative and dynamic environment. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to propose creative solutions to complex problems, balancing thorough research with a strategic perspective. This is a full-time position based at our headquarters in Washington, DC, reporting to the Associate Director of Strategic Engagement. Note: AFC is open to hiring candidates with less than the required years of experience at the Analyst level.

Responsibilities

• Manage key projects by assisting development of project plans, executing tasks, monitoring progress against timelines and contributing to progress updates and reports
• Support special initiativesincluding scoping partnership opportunities and preparing concise and clear presentations for senior leadership
• Conduct research and analysis, turning findings into clear, actionable input for strategic planning efforts and development of concepts for funding proposals
• Develop and maintain knowledge around emerging topics relevant to AFC’s priorities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of work experience, minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience in an organizational strategy or analytical role (e.g., management consulting, internal consulting or strategy, strategic function in a start-up, or equivalent). Note: for candidates with fewer years of relevant experience, we are open to hiring candidates at the Analyst level (1+ year of relevant work experience required).
• Strong strategic and analytical thinking with keen attention to detail and knowing the right questions to ask to identify a problem, even if the solution is not immediately visible
• Demonstrated expertise researching and synthesizing complex information
• Comfort with quantitative analysis methods and tools and an interest to develop this skill
• Ability to prioritize tasks, develop project plans, and maintain momentum across workstreams required
• Impeccable professional written and verbal communication skills and experience creating content tailored for different audiences
• Bachelor's degree required
• Strong PowerPoint/Google Slides skills preferred but not required.
• Experience in flooding or resilience is not required

• Salary Range for
  • Analyst: $60,000-65,000
  • Associate: $65,000-75,000
