    Bookkeeper

    The Oak Park Arts Council (OPAAC) has been a community focal point for artistic activity and we are growing. We aim to celebrate, support, and promote the local artists and arts organizations that strengthen and connect our communities. OPAAC is seeking a part-time Bookkeeper. In this role, you will work directly for the Executive Director, preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities.

    Position Breakdown:

    • Assists with preparing the monthly balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements.
    • Maintains the general ledger and the accounts payable process.
    • Reconciles all balance sheet accounts monthly.
    • Assist with filing tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
    • Maintains knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
    • Process and post daily cash receipts in accounting software (QuickBooks), including check deposits and credit card payments.
    • Communicate and enforce purchasing policies and payment requisition procedures with staff and vendors and maintain vendor files.
    • Perform general accounting and other related duties for the organization.
    • Enter fiscal year operating budget data into QuickBooks.
    • Reconcile annual grant disbursements by grantee, amount, and fund type
    • Knowledge of IDHS and DCEO staff and the grant process is preferred
    • Assist with annual audits and periodic audits

    Qualifications:

    • An associate's degree in accounting or a finance-related field is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
    • Three or more years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience; ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records.
    • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping, accounting terminology, and accounts payable/receivable principles.
    • Excellent customer service and communication (writing/editing) skills.
    • Meticulous attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and follow-through.
    • Strong organization, time management, and work prioritization skills.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite and skilled in using Excel.
    • Experience with accounting systems, Salesforce preferred.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Compensation:

    This is a 1099 position. The compensation will depend on experience; the bookkeeper will work 10-20 hours monthly.
