    Job Summary:

    The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a non-profit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and polices that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Reporting to the Sr. Director Finance, HR, and Operations, the HR Generalist will be responsible for administering the daily functions of the HR department, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and performance management. You will play a critical role in fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with our mission and values.

    This individual will bring a positive attitude and a strong willingness to listen to others and support problem-solving. The HR Generalist will be an excellent verbal and written communicator. This individual will be highly organized and have high standards of excellence for recordkeeping and maintaining timelines. Most importantly, this individual will be highly ethical and ensure that human resources policies and procedures are applied fairly across the organization.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Recruitment & Onboarding:

    • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, including job postings, candidate screening, and scheduling and coordinating interviews with both the interview team and other relevant team members. Is the main point of contact and liaison for external recruiters.
    • Facilitate a seamless onboarding process and new hire orientation to ensure new hires feel welcomed and supported.

    Employee Relations:

    • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees, addressing HR inquiries and resolving issues in alignment with organizational policies.
    • Escalates issues to appropriate leaders.
    • Promote and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture.

    Benefits Administration:

    • Administer employee benefits programs and assist with benefit-related questions or issues.
    • Act as a liaison with benefit providers to ensure employees receive timely support.
    • Compliance:
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
    • Regularly review and recommend updates to HR policies and procedures to reflect best practices.
    • Performance Management:
    • Support the development and implementation of performance management systems.
    • Coordinate and assist with performance evaluations and improvement plans.

    HR Administration:

    • Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS systems and ensure data confidentiality.
    • Generate HR reports and analyze metrics to inform decision-making.

    Training & Development:

    • Organize and track employee training on ADP.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and recommend improvements.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience:

    • Experience: 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in a generalist role in a nonprofit or academic setting.
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
    • Knowledge: Strong understanding of employment laws and HR best practices. Proficiency with ADP platform. Experience with a union is strongly preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
