    Vice President of Programs and Membership

    Team: Programs and Membership

    Reports to: President & CEO

    Employment Status: Full Time/Exempt

    Salary: $140,000/year

    Location: Position is based in New York City and will require regular travel to Long Island, Mid-Hudson Valley, Albany, and occasional travel to other parts of New York State.

    Position Overview

    The Vice President of Programs and Membership will play a leadership role within the organization as an integral member of the NYIC’s Executive Leadership Team. The VP will help guide the organization and ensure the successful execution of strategic priorities. They will direct and oversee the NYIC’s Programs and Membership department, offering strategic guidance across all events, training, and support services for member organizations and community members.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Leadership:

    • Collaborate with the CEO/President, C-Suite, and NYIC Executive Leadership Team to identify goals, priorities, strategies, and timelines for programming and membership initiatives.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of organizational goals and our strategic plan
    • Supervise and direct Programs, Membership, and Legal teams, including staff, fellows, and volunteers.
    • Provide strategic guidance and direction across the NYIC’s Programs and Membership initiatives, including developing programs that demonstrate pathways to systemic change and build the capacity of the immigrant rights movement.
    • Identify and recommend strategic opportunities for the NYIC in pursuit of our mission to serve immigrant New Yorkers and their families
    • Ensure effective communication and collaboration between Programs & Membership department and the rest of the organization

    Programs Management:

    • Oversee coordination and delivery of direct services for NYIC’s member organizations and communities.
    • Identify opportunities to expand programming to better serve our member organizations and partners.
    • Oversee and coordinate Legal services including long term sustainable efforts and rapid response efforts, direct services and implementation of legal services models
    • Evaluate the efficacy of programs and guide shifts and pivots as needed
    • Lobby for program improvement, expansion, and shifts responsive to the needs of immigrant communities

    Membership Support:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with member organizations to inform and strengthen program development.
    • Prioritize identifying opportunities to bring new member organizations into the Coalition.
    • Strengthen participation from current member organizations.
    • Strengthen the organization’s capacity-building curriculum and trainings to fortify our organization and the immigrant movement
    • Maintain and develop the NYIC’s Americorps VISTA program
    • Support the implementation of our member recruitment infrastructure and related activities

    Management:

    • Supervise and mentor 3 direct reports
    • Lead Programs, Membership and Legal teams
    • Ensure integration of the Programs and Membership department with the organization and its other teams.
    • Oversee the department’s functioning and success, including goal-setting and adherence to the strategic plan.
    • Manage staff performance, guide professional development, coach staff to develop as managers and leaders, and ensure adherence to organizational systems and policies
    • Oversee and provide direction on the NYIC’s program tracking and evaluation, data systems and relational databases

    Qualifications

    • At least seven to ten years of related experience in progressively senior positions, preferably in an advocacy/social justice organization, including demonstrated leadership of teams, ability to recognize trends and opportunities, and ability to successfully execute key objectives.
    • Strong management skills, including five + years of successfully managing a team.
    • Excellent judgment, ability to exercise strategic vision, and proven ability to identify challenges/threats/opportunities—all while being grounded in practicality.
    • Proven expertise in managing programs and exceeding deliverables; knowledge of and proven expertise in navigating the New York City and New York State-funded contracts and grants
    • Deep knowledge of the issues that affect immigrant communities.
    • Strong attention to detail is a must, along with the ability to see the big picture and understand the nuance of our programmatic and advocacy work.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse partners, and experience in building coalitions and successfully engaging stakeholders in these coalitions.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, public speaking and writing skills. Strong cultural competence and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Experience managing program tracking, data systems and relational databases e.g. salesforce
    • Strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify potential risks and strategies to mitigate risk.
    • Proficiency in another language is preferred.
    • Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

    • This position is primarily on-site, requiring being in the office 4 days per week and remote 1 day per week.
