Role Overview

Report directly to the Chief Growth Officer, The Knowledge House’s Managing Director (MD), leads and grows program impact, site operations, fundraising and strategic partnerships with other functional, regional, and national leaders. The Managing Director serves as the primary revenue driver for the New York region, and primary contact for institutional and individual donors, partners, including community colleges, corporations, learning communities, etc. Duties will include, but will not be limited to, securing philanthropic and earned revenue; establishing and managing school, corporate, and other public and private partnerships; ensuring the ongoing quality and fidelity of The Knowledge House programs, partnerships and culture; and ultimately growing the organization in the New York area.

The Managing Director collaborates closely with the CEO, Chief Program Officer, and the Sr. Director of Strategy and Innovation to ensure compliance and delivery of TKH programs and services in accordance with national program design, curriculum, SOPs, systems, and processes. Additionally, the Managing Director is a member of The Knowledge House’s Leadership Team, which supports the organization by developing the growth strategy and operational plan. As a member of this team, the Managing Director strengthens the connection between The Knowledge House’s national goals and the local work in New York.

The Managing Director will interact with students as a coach, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Fundraising & Regional Partnership Development (50%)

• Achieve the financial sustainability goals for the New York region, ensuring $2.75M is raised annually by serving as the primary fundraiser of the region and partnering with the national development team and CEO.
• Steward and renew current donors by leading stewardship activities like sharing success stories or holding funder site visits (e.g., individuals, corporations, foundations, public funding, etc.)
• Cultivate and steward donors and a high-impact Regional Advisory Council to support The Knowledge House New York strategic planning and fundraising efforts.
• Serve as the key external voice and representative of The Knowledge House in the New York region, demonstrating an exceptional and compelling articulation of The Knowledge House's mission, values, and partnership opportunities.
• Identify and establish new effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders to advance The Knowledge House New York goals, and brand.
• Maintain and grow relationships with key stakeholders across the public and private sectors, including corporate, institutional and individual donors, local school districts, technology companies, government institutions, community organizations, peer organizations, and higher education institutions.

Regional Program Management (35%)

• Partner with the Chief Growth Officer to assess and determine the scope and scale of TKH Fee for Service programs and services based on regional opportunities, needs, and infrastructure.)
• Partner with local and/or national program managers to achieve key program outcomes for the New York programs, including goals for strategic partnerships, recruitment, retention, and placement
• Build regional employer partnerships to drive program placements for learners and alumni; collaborate with the alumni manager to support job matching with select employers, leading conversations with employers to facilitate successful job placements.
• Identify and secure partnerships to meet recruitment goals and provide wrap-around services for program participants to support retention.
• Collaborate with the Outreach, Recruitment, and Community Engagement (ORCE) team to secure partner relationships that enhance referrals for program participants.
• Secure in-kind space and promote any in-person student events, including volunteer engagements, and support special events that enhance the student experience.
• At the direction of the Chief Program Officer, be available to deliver student interventions in New York as needed, engage in the community of students and special events, and support the Program Managers with team-building activities and retention strategies
• Provide feedback and best practices on the consistency and quality of program delivery across New York, documenting and sharing quality assurance strategies nationally.
• Ensure teams understand and respond to local job markets and employer partner cultures to help students transition effectively from graduation to employment.
• Participate in hiring and onboarding local staff to align with regional and organizational goals.

Regional Leadership & Staff Engagement (15%)

• Lead the New York region towards ambitious goals, using data-driven decision-making to monitor and address problems, improve performance, and increase sustainability
• Build and drive a positive, high-quality culture for the regional staff in New York
• Oversee regional operations and facilities such as identifying space for office operations and events
• Foster an outcomes-oriented, accountable team-based culture that motivates staff to work cooperatively and effectively towards the organization's vision and goals

Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum 10 years overall work experience preferred
• 4+ years of experience managing and executing complex projects across multiple stakeholders, ideally in relevant environments such as nonprofits, startups, workforce development or education
• 5+ years of people management experience, preferred
• Experience in a management role with demonstrated success growing and scaling programs and initiatives related to student success and/or workforce readiness
• Experience leading successful revenue generating and fundraising at a local and regional level
• Ability to navigate through ambiguity and create systems and processes for new program models
• Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic, complex start-up and/or entrepreneurial environment
• Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to build, cultivate and leverage personal and professional networks and relationships, develop and deliver successful presentations, and collaborate and negotiate effectively
• Experience in the design, development, and delivery of adult education and/or with The Knowledge House’s target population (low-income young adults aged 18-24) is highly desirable

Compensation and Benefits

• The salary range for this position is set at $125,000 - $140,000 per year. (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role)

Hybrid Work at TKH

All full-time staff are expected to come into a TKH office or the field (community and industry events, including conferences or travel for work) 1-2 days per week, and the Leadership Team will be encouraged to come into a TKH office at least two times per week. There will be one consistent team day a week that will vary by team. Please note that there are some roles that may require being on-site more based on the job responsibilities.

In addition to the 1 team day, there will be weeks when the expectation is 2 days/week based on required meetings. These may include all staff meetings, department stepbacks, professional development, retreats, events, or other purposeful reasons, as requested by your supervisor or team lead. Managing Directors will also need to be on site at events, which might be held on evenings and weekends.
